Hi there,

After suffering agonizing cramps in the left hand (now now, no smut), I am looking to purchase a clutch lightener.

Anyone any experience / suggestions?

try this (clutch lightener) (http://www.spareshack.com/cgi-bin/browse-no-frames.cgi?group=evoluzione) I've got one on my M900
and I reckon it reduces the amount of effort needed
by about 30%

Do you ride often? I don't know how long you've had yours, but I find you do get used to it, and I don't have Popeye's forearms!!

Fatbloke - is this an easy to add thing, or should it be done professionally?

Spacemonkey - unfortunately I don't ride as often as I would like, but as you say; it does improve over time. My problem is that I don't maintain the strength over winter. The pains are mainly in my finger joints and the fleshy pad of muscle at the base of the thumb (over scaphoid bone).

Not carpal tunnel syndrome?
I have heard of clutch slave cylinders with different ratios that will of course lighten the load. If this is what you are on about it is simple to fit, and bleeding the clutch is a cinch, but I thought they were pricey. Living in London I considered it myself, but (when my bike has two fork legs :( ) I ride every day so got used to it. And the ability to crush walnuts in my left hand was useful at christmas..

Jann its easy to do yourself its 3 bolts plus the hydraulic line, its takes longer to bleed it than fit it.

After riding Brit bikes since 1978, I thought the clutch on my 900 was a real pussycat but a few would prefer a wussy Honda type clutch and those slave cylinders seem to do the trick.

The adjustable levers as fitted to the bigger Monsters also improve it by allowing you to adjust the span etc to suit the size of yer puddies..

It's not Carpal Tunnel syndrome as it stops baing painful as soon as I stop riding (old age perhaps???). It feels more like a cramp, I can alleviate it if I don't wrap my thumb around the grip.

I will look at getting one of these kits. Thank you :)

Sounds like strain due to excess reach of the fingers as well. Have you thought of adjustable levers if they are available?

Oooh - I had those on my KTM...... and they are rather good.

Thanks

Well, success!

My bike was at On Yer Bike for servicing, and while it was in the shop I asked them to put adjustable break and clutch levers on.

BINGO!

Rode from On Yer Bike back home - roughly 50 miles, with lots of clutch activity ..... and ...... not one pain!!!

Happy Girl :)
