Hi all
Anyone had any experience of bar risers on the M1100? Good / bad / indifferent.
Thanks

Thought about this, but opted for rizoma bars instead, much better position for me, even better too when I added a ducati low seat.
Reasoning was that I preferred the look of the bars over the risers, plus they are a little shorter which I wanted and they have a slightly different profile which brings your hands further back so even more upright. I get a bad neck so can't really lean forward too much.
Downside is that you have to drill the bars to accept the location plugs in the switchgear - bit of a faff.
Ma005b from moorespeed racing - no problems with cables etc.

Having owned an M1100 and an M1100 evo I can say that the only difference in the riding position is the bars on the evo use risers that are 20mm higher - so just the same as using small risers on the M1100. I also used the touring seat on both bikes, which I think is slightly higher than the stock seat.

I found the riding position on the evo put too much weight on my backside giving me a sore bum after about 45 minutes. On the M1100 I could ride until the tank was empty with no discomfort. So I put a set of M1100 risers on my evo.

It really is each to their own. I actually find the M1100 riding position quite comfortable, even for long (500-600 mile) days. The only thing I would change would be to move the pegs about 10-20mm lower.

Just waiting for a set of M1100 risers to fit on my 1100 Evo, agree with what you say, so looking forward to fitting and trying them.
As for pegs, look on flea bay for some of the Chinese foot pegs, they do some adjustable sets that are slightly narrower at the fitment end than standard, bit are slightly longer on the length but will lower you by around 20-30mm, should do the trick and are cheap :-).

I initially put the risers from an evo on to my M1100 which was tight with the throttle cable/switch gear, but did make a differnece. Being a Rizoma fan I did the same as pptom and put that bar on with stock risers and found the 'sweep' of the bar took a lot of weight off my wrists and made a massive difference to the comfortable, although I do get a numb bum after a few hrs - never thought of that issue before!! which is a bit worrying as I have bought the 60mm rizoma risers to try.

I'm getting used to the position now... Its just the noise now, been a while since I've heard a dry clutch LOL

chris.p are these the type of foot pegs that you are referring to?

Shinobi adjustable foot pegs (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360955924967?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch% 2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D36095 5924967%26_rdc%3D1)

Yes, but the ones I saw had solid round pegs rather than slash cut ones.

Have tried to upload a pic of the pegs from my desktop, but it always says "upload failed" :-(

You need to post the picture on a website and then link to it. There are numerous suitable sites like tinypic.

I currently have Oberon footpegs of this style
http://motowheels.com/images/F27216320.jpg
These pegs are slightly longer than stock and force your feet to be a few millimetres further out, which helped reduce the amount that my heel caught on the pillion peg hanger of the M1100 and exhaust shield on the evo. Although I have never grounded the Oberon pegs I have scraped the outside edge of the toes of my boots riding with the pegs under the balls of my feet (my boots are a couple of centimetres wider than the pegs are long). So if I replaced the pegs with something lower I think they might need to be slash cut to avoid the risk of wearing away the underside of the end of the pegs, but maybe it's better to wear away a set of £40 pegs than £200 boots.

TonyF - apologies for hijacking your thread and talking about footpegs. However it is the relative positions of your three points of contact with the bike (bars, seat, pegs) that determine how comfortable the riding position is. Adjusting the position of one point will alter the angle of several of the body's joints which can lead to relieving pain in one area and introducing it somewhere else. So it is always worth bearing in mind how whatever changes you plan will affect your body position and what new issues you could encounter.

There is one other change that I made to the bars on my M1100 and evo that I have found beneficial. With the stock grips I found that my hands weren't always resting as far inwards as possible. By allowing my hands to fall into a wider position I found that it was less relaxed for my upper arms and shoulders. To prevent this from happening I fitted Rizoma SportLine Grips http://www.ducati.ms/forums/attachments/parts-accessories/64245d1268270166-rizoma-sportline-grips-black-sale-sportline_black_big.gif
Because of their shorter length and the thumb groove I found that my hands never strayed towards the ends of the bars resulting in a more comfortable ride. Due to the grips being shorter than the Ducati ones I have been able to cut 9mm off each end of the bars. It's really just an aesthetic thing, but I can squeeze through smaller gaps now ;) However with the narrower bars, to get everything looking right you also need to replace the levers and mirrors IMHO because the standard ones look too large.
