Insurance due again this month and renewal from Bennetts has popped through the letterbox. Now I know I have two bikes on the policy but the other, not the S4R is a 50cc Chinese scooter for C....t sake.
Thinking I won`t notice, the premium has jumped up to over £170 despite 10+ yrs no claims, high excess, low mileage and me being an old git.
Quick search on go compare has reduced this to £65. This does mean the excess will be £900 but it was £500 before!
How can they justify huge hikes, disparity in prices and have some kind of weird expectation that I`m going to use them again?

Mine went from £1700 a year to £500 with Ducati Insurance, and one years no claim.

I give them the double thumbs up.

Mine went from £735 to £419 going from RAC to Bennetts last month, but I'm a Bennetts first time user so I'm expecting to get rolled next year. To be honest, I think the expectation these days is that you hop from provider to provider. I don't think there's any such thing as rewarding loyal customers any more.

Been with Ducati Insurance since my first 695... always been cheapest and always friendly to deal with... mine actually dropped a fair amount this year even with two Monsters on the policy and my other half!

Had the same problem with Multi bike policy.
The excess on the Ducati £100 the KTM £150 the 125cc Kymco scooter £750. with MCE
Changed now to Carole Nash and the scooter is now £100.00 excess plus all 3 bikes cost less than £350.00 to insure.

I did go to DI for a quote and they were cheapest by some margin. Unfortunately, they had also assumed that I'd be doing max 5k a year in mileage. As soon as I said I'd be commuting and doing nearer 8k, the £375 went up to well over £500. I laughed, then hung up.

Funny enough after doing well with them last year my renewal was no good with DI this year.

I just got fully comp with Bennett's for less than their TPFT renewal, with my poxy one year NCB post theft-claim. Same underwriter Equity Red Star too oddly enough.

Bit hit and miss but they saved the day last year for sure.

I tried Ducati insurance for my 916, they were way too expensive, especially when I told them it was modified, which they actually seemed surprised about! They also didn't offer breakdown/recovery and the sales advisor 'advised' that I try Carole Nash...

I have both the Monster and 916 on a custom (due to modifications) multi-bike policy with agreed value (around 3x 'book' value) with Carole Nash at a reasonable price.

It has to be said though that cheap insurance is the one benefit of being an old fart. :D

I too am an old git. My renewal in April with Bikesure was hiked up to £330 for the '94 600 Monster and an '87 Harley Sportster 1100. I complained and they waived their 'fee' of £30. Seems our reward for loyalty and lack of claims is a price hike that you either accept or move insurers.

Being really old but not old enough to be a liability DI did another good job on my 750 and a Yam TTR250.
Not wanting to upset anyone but it scrapped in at a few £'s over 3 figures

<< That'll be me being all smug LOL

Unfortunately days of loyalty giving you any reward are long gone.

I had exactly the same yesterday, renewal came from CN, went on MCN compare and Carole Nash was about third cheapest, rang them up and they confirmed the online price of nearly a hundred pounds cheaper than my renewal, a better policy also.

I queried and they said you get extra online discount plus new customer discount. Just a pain every time you renew any insurance you have to go through all that.

Have to say the girl on the phone at CN was excellent, an absolute pleasure to talk to.

Might be worth giving Peter James a call I was recommended them by some one on the forum and I am more than pleased.

ebike for me.... all online, all mods taken into account and what I thought was a good price sub £180 fully comp on my M900 (special old git deal..?)... generally I have always found renewal quotes are always higher but tell them you are off elsewhere and will usually get offered a discount.. if not Go Compare etc ...

Just tried ebike as my insurance is up in July.... they wanted over £100 more just for my M900, than I'm paying for my M900, Guzzi 1000S, and BSA Lightning Clubman put together from RH insurance.

I was with Peter James a couple of years ago they were good, will also be giving them a try.

DI tried to treble my premium when I moved to London, so went elsewhere. Renewal just came through last week at £128 quid.

It pays to shop around

In total agreement with Gary.

I got my renewal in, and I wanted both the Guzzi 1000S and BSA A65 Lightning Clubman off the road, fire and theft only, as they are going through a bit of a refurbishment, and the M900 fully comp. It was a bit more than last year so I shopped about. I called Carole Nash ,and after a bit of trying to explain what a Ducati Monster is/was, as he couldn't find it on his list, they wanted £278 with a 3000 mileage limit and they said it would be a £35 admin fee for amending policy if I changed a detail during the year, oh!, and he said he could negotiate if I took it there and then, when I did it online with them later it was only £209!, needless to say no negotiations took place.

I called Peter James, whom I was with 2 years ago but had to change as I bought a new F800R and they only cover certain modern bikes and that wasn't one of them, and spoke to a very nice lady, who took all my details and called me back within about 10mins.

She said they don't do off the road cover as such but all 3 bikes would be covered fully comp, on the road, unlimited mileage with a £50 excess and breakdown cover, legal etc. ....£184.54, or the Monster alone for £117.22, I confirmed details and took it out for the 3 bikes, which means when I get one or both of the others finished,(eventually!!!:mand:), it can be put on the road without the hassle of rearranging insurance again and incurring any admin fee.

They were very pleasant and easy to deal with and it may be worth trying them for a Monster as they cover certain modern bikes.

I had a quote from Peter James for my Monster 800 & a Lambretta TV200 - £215. A touch better than my renewal from Carol Nash at £223. Both with breakdown cover.

My Bennets insurance renewal was right up this year, I called them to see if they could reduce it and they didn't seem that interested, so I moved and almost halved it ...
