S2R1000 wacky temperature display

Hello out there, can anyone advise whether they have had similar problems with digital temp display on the clock jumping about with temp read out? Is it just the oil temp sensor that's gone loopy??

I've seen this when the sensor connector came loose. It's on the end of the filter screen near the oil level sight glass.

Never had a issue with my S2R1000 other than clocks were replaced when suddenly started showing 70mph when slowing down in a 30. Faulty unit.

I had a fiddle with the sensor cable while the bike was running but stationary and there didn't appear to be any change in the readout. It only seems to jump around when I'm riding.

I crimped up the connector with some pliers and refitted it, my problem went away.

Thanks Slob, I'll give that a go. Found a thread from 2006 that describes my problem exactly. I noticed you commented there that 130degC is hot temp for Monster in August. What do you reckon is a normal running temp after a decent ride? Mine sits at around 100 to 110.

My 1000DS was running at 90-92 on a long, dull motorway run yesterday, 100-110 is probably normal for a spirited run on a warm day with some slowing down for villages etc. I get just over 100 commuting into central London even in October/November. 130 related to a M620ie (no oil cooler)

My temp guage did the same and caused erratic running, a rewire sorted it all out.

The tension on the crimp had come loose so it slipped off the terminal. Pliers sorted that out quickly and it's all roses again:) Fitted LED indicators to the front also, really looks so much better than the stocks. Thanks again for all the advice
