this may sound like a stupid question and it probaly will be , where do i insert the key as per the instruction on the side of beer tray too remove seat ..... ? i have a 93 monster m900
and will need to take it off for me tail tidy fitting ..

virgin ducati owner but loving every minute of it what a ride !!! :

on the right hand side rear. put the key in and pull up on the lever

... what he said. But don't turn the key else you'll need to get a new one if the key goes "ping".... Just insert key and pull lever. Easy.


ps: You'll need to remove the seat if you do a "tailchop" tidy for sure.. :biggrin: .. but that's a different story!

On a 600 you don't get a lever.
If it's not been off for a while then squirt some lube in the lock and round the back of it.
Key in and turn should open the latch under the seat which will then come off

There's two levers each side already, more than enough for anyone ;)

If it's like the 600 for the same year the lever is to the rear of where you insert the key. Press down on the back of the seat if the lever won't move to ease the pressure on the catch as you pull the lvere upwards (gently). Oil the seat release cable whilst you have the seat removed; they are notorious for seizing up.

My early 600 had the lever. Confused me no end that the key didn't turn. My later one, you have to turn the key.
