Hi all my missus is thinking of swopping her 695 for a 696 she loves the 695 but being little it's quite a stretch to reach the bars the 696 seems to be less so, anyway I digress has anybody used throw over luggage on a 696 ? My concern is that the high level pipes may interfere with it at best or even burn a hole in it at worst.
Any comments greatly appreciated

You are right that the high level tailpipes mean that normal panniers are a no-no.

I use Kriega tailpacks on my 696 - a US20 with one or two US10s depending on how much stuff I need to take. They're definitely waterproof (tested on a very soggy couple of days in Wales) but not easy to get stuff out of when fully packed. A US20 and 2 US10s were sufficient for best part of a fortnight's touring in Europe a couple of years ago (though did end up washing socks in hotel sinks).

The other popular luggage option with a lot of Monsters is the Ventura system - metal brackets that bolt onto the bike and take a variety of different sized bags http://www.ventura-bike.co.uk/fitments/Ducati/1011-monster_696_all_models.aspx. More expensive, and you do end up with something bolted to your bike all the time, but probably easiery to rummage in when packed.

Hi gjf

I have these.

I fitted them to a Monster 1100 to see if they fitted ok and they fitted perfectly.
I bought them for my Evo and wondered why they sat so far out on the evo.
That's to allow for the wheelbarrow exhausts on the 696,796 & 1100. :)

you can once you do the first assembly fit and remove the whole lot in about 5 minutes.

they are brill and look loads better than the DP setup.

John, are these for the Evo ? Or are they for all of the new monsters? I.e do they stick out far on the Evo to allow for the stock exhaust on the 696, 796 and 1100.

Let me know.

Cheers

Hi Wezrvf yes they are the ones that stick out on the evo to allow for higher exhausts on other models as you say. I got them from DMC where I believe you got your evo from if you are interested I could always meet you there so you could check them out. John

Haha, how rude ! i am only joking.

Cobra, in all honesty i don't know how you don't mind that they stick out that much? I think you have one of the nicest Evos on here and have followed your mods and stolen some ideas ;) but there is no way i could aesthetically put up with the bags hanging outboard that much. It is certainly a vanity thing but looking at all the visual mods you have made to your bike i would say we are similar in that sense. Does the aesthetic of the frame for the bags not bug you? The only reason i ask is because i am desperately trying to find some luggage for my Evo and i don't think i could go with something like this or the DP bags because of the way the frame is made to accommodate the exhausts on the 696 etc ???

Hopefully that doesn't come across crappy, i know each to their own but just wanted your thoughts on it as i may be being too anal. :)

Hi Wez
Ah bless (I can send a signed photo)
The pics where from about 6 weeks ago when I bought the panniers off another ducati forum.

I have cut 3 inches off each side now to suit the evo ;)

Can't be Foo**d to dig them out an refit now but you will see when I go to Spain later this year.

Was showing pics to help people see that evo listed panniers are for all Current monsters :)

Rick

Bobbins! Are they part of the carrier or another mod? Did you not like the single sided paddock stand?

Brilliant. I think I best check out this other forum ;)

So was it a straight swap? I wanted to get a supersprox set with a good chain but couldn't find one for the bike.

What chain you running ??

Hi there, I use one of these, Givi 40l waterproof duffle bag. Rok straps crossed from the exhaust hangers to the opposite indicator bracket ( don't strap the cable ! ).
