removing learner restrictor

Have a monster 695 it had a restrictor that limited throttle travel. Ilhaving looked at the throttle body there was a curved plate held on with one Allen bolt, the plastic throttle cam would knock against it. thinking this plate was the restrictor I've taken it off and the bike goes like stink. I suppose it was the right bit I've taken off?
I'll get a pic up later.
The bike must have had such s gentle life. :-)
