Anyone fancy a trackday at Brands hatch in april ? No Limits is running two one on the 8th and one on the 30th
I am looking at the 30th to give the 600ss a test run ready for the Ducati trackday in May.(not been used on a trackday before)

Ok let me know. I will be booking on Monday or Tuesday next week, I will be booking novice for my first day on the little ss to get a feel for it and check settings etc.
Hope to be able to get back into doing inters after that.(maybe not on the Ducati day as its going to be very under powered i think) I hope it will be light enough on braking and smooth through the corners no to be worried about top speed.

You'll be fine in the Inters I'm sure- I ran my little 250 in that group at Brands when Steve and I both did our ACU licenses and I'm sure Bex doesn't run in the novice group even though her Honda is 'only' a 125 :spin:

I indeed ran inters at Brands, though corner speed was my friend.

I will be happy to run the ss in inters once i have had a few spinns on it to get sorted and set it up. maybe move to inters after lunch at Brands if all goes well with the test runs.
Doing a few mods to the bike and i have only ridden it a few times since i bought it.

i think you will be fine in inters mate

i found it easier to be on a slower bike in a faster group,
in novices you will inevitably get stuck behind long queues of litre sports bikes who cant go round corners which will just ruin your day

in inters those who are faster than you will be past you and gone and those that aren't won't :-)

I'm aiming for either the 8th or 30th on Brands Indy myself Rich - although realistically the 8th maybe too soon

Depends how I get on finishing the NC30 this month. Still got a lot of jobs to finish and trailer to buy

Some mates are also planning to do Snetterton with MSV on tuesday 13th May, which I may tag along with. http://www.msvtrackdays.com/bike-home/event-details.aspx?productid=2227

The Cadwell Morini club track day is looking sketchy. Dates for July still haven't gone up on website, and I've a feeling it will be oversubscribed. Might do a No Limits or MSV day there instead later in the season

Just remember that the MSV Circuits have very strict noise regs and so a Monster on open pipes may be marginal (Pannigale's and Cross Plane cranked R1's on standard pipes are failing at some circuits) even my little bike failed last time I was there but I managed to blag it through.

Ok I am booked in for the 30th at Brands. Good point on noise levels as the ss seems a bit loud to me (single pipe scorpion race can) I have a DB killer from a monster can that will fit with just a small mod. I will add it to the list of jobs to do ready, working on the front brake tonight.

I will be on a flight to Spain that morning :-(
3 days at Aragon should blow out the cobwebs before Valencia :-)

...isn't your bike drop-off on the 26th Ali?

When noise testing, pull your clutch in, even on wet clutch models it seems to help. If its 105db day be amazed if it failed. Re group, if you are inters pace go in inters, as you may not he able to move around on the day

Enjoy

Will play this by ear but the 749 is now ready to rock in track bodywork so weather/work dependent I'm in for 30th

Good tip Bradders, 105 is nice and high so should not be a problem. my Monster was around 94/95 with carbon race cans, The SS seems louder to me maybe the single pipes make more noise ?

For my first test of the SS novice will be fine as I will be happy to test set up and brakes then if needed get out in front of Group in paddock to give me a few clear laps before I meet to much traffic.

Don't bank on it- lots of current bikes on standard pipes are failing at circuits even with 105dB limits (which unless it is somewhere like Donington which still have full 'noisey days' is the most it will be).
Here is the info from Castle Combe on a 105dB day:

27/05/2014 Castle Combe - Full circuit 4 Groups p/h £130.00
Up to 6 groups p/h depending on demand. Static test at 3/4 rpm. Bikes that will fail even with standard pipes: 1098R, 1198, Multistrada, Panigale. CBR1000 '08 and '10. ZX10 '09 and '10. RC8. GSXR600-750-1000 K6 - K8. Triumph 675 '09. R6 '06, '08, '09. R1 Crossplane crank.

Some of the problem is the way they appear to noise test everything at 3/4 full revs when it should be per ACU regs depending on capacity and cylinders as below. But for a track day a circuit can test how they choose (need to) to keep the authorities happy.

SPORT PRODUCTION AND SPORT PRODUCTION BASED ENGINES
----------------------------1 Cylinder 2 Cylinder 3 Cylinder 4 Cylinder
250cc (4-stroke)--------5,500rpm 8,500 rpm
400cc (4-stroke)--------5,000rpm 6,500rpm 7,000rpm 8,000rpm
600cc (4 stroke)--------5,000rpm 5,500rpm 6,500rpm 7,000rpm
750cc (4-stroke)--------5,000rpm 5,500rpm 6,500rpm 7,000rpm
Over 750cc (4-stroke)-4,500rpm 5,000rpm 5,000rpm 5,500rpm

2 STROKE RACING ENGINES
-----------------------------1 Cylinder 2 Cylinder 3 Cylinder 4 Cylinder
125 (2-stroke)-----------7,000rpm
250 (2-stroke)-----------7,000rpm
500 (2-stroke)-----------5,500rpm 7,000rpm 7,000rpm

Think a little clever if it does fail to stop it ruining your day:

I've got a slot in baffle for the carbon Delkevic can I fitted to the NC30

It's a 450mm long oval so shouldn't be that mental anyway

You would think so (I did too) but on my little racer which was failing noise tests I made a longer can to try and quieten it (fitted over it's reverse cone megaphone) and it actually made it louder!!??

Perhaps it is just the way a single pulses (so this may only apply to single cylinder bikes) but apparently it had more to do with the diameter than the length which is why many classics will have horrible looking fat cans fitted for circuits that demand stricter noise limits.

In the end I had a new exhaust made but am yet to have it noise tested as my last race was the Donington Festival last year which was a full on 'noisey weekend' and the club didn't bring the dB meters so will need to get it checked before Brands this year.

I did try this but they weren't keen.....

Yes, sounds travels in waves, bass waves are longer, higher notes shorter hence changing the shape of things can have weird affects on noise

Fitted my HM forks last night and put the wheels back in with a set of scrubbed super coursers ready for this trackday. I must remembered to mod a old Db killer to fit the SS incase it is to loud.

Anybody fancy joining Gary and me on this event ?

Well.... we both had a blast at Brands on the 30th

I have just booked another session on 23rd June - full Brands GP circuit this time :D

NC30 was just brilliant fun on track. The upgrades I did to brakes, engine, suspension and the new tyres really paid off

Ah bugger!!
If it was the Indy circuit I would for sure as I am racing there on the 5th and 6th July so could do with a bit of a go on the little bike before then but it will be lost on the GP circuit I think.

I've not done the GP circuit before so fancied giving it a go
