I was just wondering if there was any general rule of taste or limit of excess with regards how far one should / would "pimp one's ride". Obviously Bigredduke's new mirrors are skirting along the bleeding edge of acceptability and good taste, but how far is too far? Reason I'm asking is that I'm planning on doing a bit of upgrading to my 696. Nothing drastic - I've already chopped the tail and added some Termis, this will fundamentally be some new Rizoma Billit 4D mirrors, maybe some Rizoma mini indics, a Skidmarx flyscreen, and some handguards to keep the chill off me mitts (I get cold mitts, me). I think this is all ok, but I didn't want to make a fashion faux pas - especially with the screen and guards - on a design classic like the Monster (such as it is or may be regarded as such). Is this all a bit wrong, or is it simply a case of horses for courses?

Do what you like. If you like the look of it then it is ok. Who are we to judge? Everyones opinion on what is tasteful is different. Who cares what someone else thinks. It's not like your putting a belly pan on it or making it a tribute to Valentino Rossi ;) Two things that could upset a couple of folk around these parts.

I don't think that you can really go wrong with Rizoma. I saw a Sport Classic that looked like it had ridden through the Rizoma catalogue (the amount of bling probably cost more than the bike). The bike still looked great.

By the way the only major faux pas you could do in my opinion is tassles. Then you'd have to wear chaps. After that it will all go a bit Village People, but if that's your thing then there's nowt wrong with that.

I can't believe Dirty hasn't posted a bunch of 'pimp my ride' pics so far.
I have some Rizoma mirrors and indicators going cheap if you decide to go that route.

If you're Liberace that bike would be perfect. A normal looking bike would be far too dull. It needs to sparkle.

Each to their own.

Pimping is a matter of personal taste , breeding and an eye for true beauty ,,,, sadly some folks have none .

Even that hasn't got skull mirrors though! :)

Thanks guys, most reassuring!

Slob - I'm not sure about the indics yet, but may be interested in the mirrors. What do you have in mind? (I don't like the OEM mirrors on my 696 - too narrow, hence looking at 4Gs).

I won a whole box of brand new stuff (Weekender raffle) last year and will donate whatever I get to Riders for health on behalf of the club. I've already sold the grips and thottle adaptors to S4rs_Mac for £40 (RRP£62). I still have:
Bar ends £30 (RRP £43)
Mirrors £170 (RRP £218)
Indicators with all wiring and spacers £185 (RRP £230)
plus any postage, the RRP was correct last Summer.
I'll try and take some photos at the weekend
