£488 for a service.
I really need to learn to do stuff myself.
feel slightly ripped off.

depending what has needed doing, I've had over 2x that amount! "service" can be oil and filters, or belts, valve clearances, tyres, brakes, clutch, chain and sprockets etc etc

What did you have done for £488?

Out of interest where did you take it? JHP?

I haven't used them myself but Cornerspeed sounds like a local place well worth supporting, from what I've heard.
Then again, Ducati servicing can be hugely expensive.
I would definitely recommend learning to do it yourself though....unless you want the ducati service history for when you sell the bike. In fact even then, the extra sale price wouldn't outweigh the servicing costs saved.
Mine has had zilch spent on servicing labour in the 7yrs I've owned it. If I'd been paying dealer servicing prices it probably would have added up to close to what I paid for the bike in the first place.
2-valvers are actually very straightforward to work on and only the valve clearance adjustment is tricky (though just checking them is much simpler).
Plus it increases your familiarity with the machine when you work on it yourself.
The Ducati-tech videos by Chris Kelly are excellent guides.

that doesn't sound bad as belts, oil, filters, etc could have been close to £200. A major service seems to be a good few hours labour, and if clearances were checked/adjusted that again is time consuming (plus shims are not cheap!).

Add in the alarm issues and VAT and that's not too bad imho

My bikes go from Kent to Neil.
Don't feel ripped off. He does great work and is honest as the day is long.

thanks for that. all my jap bikes used to cost around £150 to £200.
At least its done now I can ride the bloody thing instead of looking at it in my front room.

Yes, I agree. And you will certainly have had a good job done.

Ducatis need love and attention, not just an oil flush like a cold pice of jap metal.

Check the receipt, you may have "cuddles and sweet talking" itemised ;)

Almost £100 of that bill would be vat at 20%

You have the treasury/government to blame for that stealth tax

Just don't use it. Sits in the garage, but told they still need doing regardless of mileage

It's on age as that's what came sooner

On a positive note...

You only spent £62 on petrol

Probably less than that, as I'm not the best rider and nimble around

It won't get serviced there, but they do a great job and bike always feels like a new bike

I just can't afford to,pay that for something that doesn't get used

Sounds a good price for the work done, always use Cornerspeed for my 748R and Cathy's 696. Neil is a top bloke and you know he is the person doing the work

Mine came in at exactly that at ProTwins (for more info see page four of this thread (http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=49468&page=4))
