Hi i have know officially entered what is know as winter tinkering period with my monster.
after a change of handlebars and changing most of the srews with stainless and titanium i really need to change the oil lines to the oil cooler. the present ones are the crappy nickel plated original ones. what i need is lines with anodised or stainless steel fittings and braided lines.
can any body help?

Hel make a kit for the monsters - contact them as you can specify the build

I made some up using stuff from www.torques.co.uk

AN -6 (JIC 6 AN6 AN 06) to M14x1.25 Metric Adapter x4
AN -6 (AN6) STRAIGHT Swivel Seal Hose Fitting x4
AN -6 (8mm) 5/16" Braided Fuel Hose

these are black anodised with nylon braided hose

If you use these, you want to wrap the fasteners in tape and use decent quality AF spanners to do them up. They're soft and will mark quite easily.

You might want angled connectors if you're routing the hoses to the stock cooler.

Did you fit the fittings to 'bare' hose?

I have a large oil cooler to fit that has a specific hose fitting but the hoses I can find are about 25mm too long (too much to lose in an 'S' bend) so I need to sort something that fits.

Yes, I just bought a 1m length of hose. Wrapped it in masking tape at the measured lengths and cut it with a Dremel disc.

Interesting, the cooler I want to use is a better fit on my bike than a 1098 cooler as it has the correct spacing & positioning on the brackets to suit the rocker cover mount, plus it sits further back (so the wheel won't hit it under braking) without extra brackets and best of all it is bigger than a 1098 cooler.

It looks like the fittings you have are the type that Ducati used on the older models rather than the ones with the two 'O' rings.

Do you think they would fit onto existing Ducati oil lines if I cut the original fitting off? I ask because the lines I need have a specific push-in fitting at the cooler end but I could use any fitting in the engine, assuming there's enough hose to fit to once the old fitting's cut off?

Unless you know where I can get fittings like the ones on my oil lines, or new lines made up to length?

Here's some pics;

This much too long;

I doubt you could fit those AN-6 fittings to your existing lines.
Easiest answer might be to tap threads into the cooler?
As DrD suggests: I'd try talking to HEL/Goodridge/Earls first.

In case you do, there's a small chance that I might have a suitable tap.
If you can find out exactly what the thread is, I'll have a look if you like.
Taps that size probably won't be cheap.

Stock is M14x1.25

The ID of the push-in hole for the hose is 16mm so would need an adaptor to reduce it to 14mm, making it even longer (and the walls are thin).

The ID of the narrow part between the push-in and the cooler (as seen in pic 3) is 10mm so could probably be used if there's enough (depth) of it and if I cut the wide section off - seems a shame to be 'butchering' a new oil cooler but if that's what it takes... :scratch:

Only thing that would worry me is that doing the threaded mod would leave the oil cooler threaded fitting with nothing to 'brace' against when tightening the adaptor in - the standard 1098 style cooler has nut flats on the outlets so that two spanners can be used when fitting.

Wouldn't want to break the outlet off when tightening the fittings...

Talk to Hel or Earls, they can use your originals as pattern and make to order.

Too right.

maybe try Pirtek too if you have one local

Thank you for all the infomation about oil lines, i asumed that the threads on the cooler and the engine casing would be some weird pipe thread and not a metric size.
I have a goodridge hose supplyer close to were i live so i shall give them a try.
I shall take the lines of first and check the threads my self first.

cheers and thanks for all the information.

cheers and thanks for all the information.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I got mine shortened at my local Pirtek, they don't have those fittings but they had a suitable ferrule that they could swage on to the existing fitting after cutting 25mm off the hose.

Job's a good'un;

I got all the fittings and hoses from TORQUES.co.uk this week and managed to get the hoses cut to the right length at work :thumbsup:, using masking tape rather than insulation tape made cutting the hoses a lot better i.e. the band saw i used cut the hose
with out diturbing the stainless steel braiding.
Anyway there all to gether know all i have to do i venture in to the cold garage and fit them.:on:
