Take some Nitric and Sulphuric acid and mix in equal parts at about 10 deg C. Carefully drop glycerine onto the surface. Collect the resulting jelly and place on the gasket. Leave a heater on in the garage and retire to a safe distance/another country. It should work it's way off when the room temp rises enough, thus reducing the need for the hammering effort.
