Early model 900ie Dark Monster 2002 (51 plate) with hoop frame rear suspension

Owned by me from new. Some history up until warranty expired, then serviced regularly either by me or independent Ducati specialists. It's been Datatagged (no alarm or immobiliser) and current mileage stands at 22,253

It had the following fitted in April 2013, and has only done about 2500 miles since. Cam belts, Yuasa Battery, Oil and filter, Maxxis sport tyres and chain and sprockets. The valve shims and engine tune were also checked and adjusted at Ducati Pro Team in June.

Non standard and bling stuff as listed

Complete bodywork re-paint done earlier this year
Sil Moto high level carbon pipes
Ducati Performance ECU + K&N filter with open airbox lid
Redline clip on bars with custom 53mm fork clamps
916 front forks in machined/shimmed yokes, running Racetech 0.85 kg springs
Technoflex rear shock
Billet adjustable levers
Pro Bolt alloy clutch and brake reservoir caps
Carbon rear hugger and air scoops
Monza belly pan
Rizoma belt covers and clutch cover
DP Billet pressure plate
De Pretto Moto sprocket cover and mirrors
LED rear tail lamp, tail chop with DIY tail tidy bracket and mini indicators
Dart mini flyscreen
R&G crash bungs
Scottoiler

I've also got a slightly scuffed standard monster flyscreen I was going to fit. Needs re painting and a fitting kit but I'll include it in the deal if wanted.

Looking to get £2800 ovno - please PM me if interested. Would rather offer it to club members first before touting it on ebay or classifieds. I'll be using it for MOB weekend in Belgium but it will be available for sale immediately after that

Yes James if I sell this to make space - and no it won't be a moped

I feel the need to get creative again ;)

Yep like Rob said it's a VFR400 NC30 track bike

Body work is all in grey primer at the moment - hence the grey colour scheme

Should be a lot of fun next season :mand:

Has the bike gone to an existing member?

gary tompkins

It's a guy from the Nottinghamshire area James

Not a member as yet but I'll steer him in the direction of the UKMOC

Now it's time to start ticking off items on the VFR400R shopping list

Nice one Gary, 2nd time lucky eh.

I bet paint is on the shopping list, decided what colour/s yet?

gary tompkins

Yes I got there in the end

Got busy pulling bits off the VFR this afternoon. To be honest paintwork is way down my priority list

Shopping list has so far included: New brake discs and pads all round, Steel braided brake lines, replacement bodywork, Frame crash sliders, Nitron race shock, Top and bottom cooler rads (lower one was shot to bits), Samco cooling hose set & stainless hose clips, lightweight/carbon exhaust can (original weighs a ton), and new Bridgestone BT92 tyres. You would be surprised at just how little some of these new parts cost, and makes me realise just how expensive Ducati parts have got these days.

I managed to blag a hardly used RVF fairing set on ebay for £90, and have a new tail peice on the way. Both are GRP in white Gel coat so don't really need painting. I'll just spray the tank and front mudguard to match using rattle cans. The original bodywork will do as spares, but it needs repairs and is well past it's best.

I've already got a full engine service spares kit, with filters, oil, gaskets etc.. so overhauling motor, and checking valve shims is my first priority. The Denso iridium spark plugs are tiny, but also frigging expensive at nearly £60 for a set. It's a sound investment because the VFR400 needs good plugs if it's going to be reliable and perform at 100%. Any small capacity V4 that redlines at over 14000 rpm, is going to really punish it's ignition system. I'm thinking of starting a photo blog of the rebuild - just need to pick Albie's brains on setting one up

I'm not into boring everyone with nut and bolt rebuilds, so will just post a simple before and after shot

The overhall list included:

Full engine service, new discs and pads all round, Goodridge hoses, Thumb rear brake conversion, New radiators, Samco hoses, 17" RVF400 rear wheel, Delkavic carbon exhaust can, rearsets, Renthall sprockets and 520 izumi chain, nitron rear shock, Rejetted carbs + K&N filter, Removed speedometer and idiot lights, SES aluminium fairing brace, quick action throttle, Rick Oliver fork upgrade kit, Michelin power 3 tyres, replacement fairing and all bodywork repainted.

Looks great GT, as with all 'cheap trackbikes' almost too good to take on track ;-)

I see you managed to avoid Rothmans colours once you'd got rid of the new-style plain packaging

Replaces the mirrors. They bolt on there and keep fairing to frame so its just a big washer with a brand T

Booked in for Brands Hatch indy on 30th April with Scrapps

Yes.. the oval plates replace mirrors and fix top fairing to screen brace. Made by Tyga performance - hence the 'T' engraved into them, They make lots of cool stuff for the NC30. I bought some titanium rear hub nuts from them too.

Looking really good mate, you deserve to be very proud of it. I hope the clutch is an easy fix before Wednesday.
I may just try and make an appointment in Orpington or Dartford on Wednesday now!

I won't get time to look at clutch until after track day. Probably needs a rebuild/parts, and I'll have to order them so it'll have to wait. It changes gear ok just clonks into 1st and drags badly, making it a pain to get into neutral - very common NC30 problem apparently

Shuffy helped me load it to the trailer yesterday. Wanted to have a trial run using the ramp I made and new R&G tie down set. Got it lashed on and took it for a short test drive. I'm really crap at reversing with trailer hooked up. Took me ages to do a three point turn at the end of my road :o

We had a great day at Brands today. The NC30 and Scrapps 600SS ran really well, the weather was fantastic, and the Michelin power tyres were brilliant. Looking to book another one at a different track in June. Thanks for the loan of the trailer today Albie :)
