I have been looking at buying a new set of leathers as my old ones are too big. I want to get it right this time but I am having trouble with sizing.
I am 6 ft tall and am very athletic. I have broad shoulders and a big chest and small hips. If leathers fit my upper half they are to big on the bottom half.
I want a race suit as I am going to be doing a lot of track day rides next year. I have tried Arlen ness, Alpine star, Wolf, Furygan and RST and cant get a good fit.
I am starting to think that I should buy a custom set of leathers and get it right.
Has anyone had any experience with custom fit leathers? good companies?
Or non custom leathers that can offer the fit I want...
Cheers

Hi Simon, I was in the same boat a few weeks ago, I have an older set of Hein Gericke leathers that Ive had for some time.
I just bought a Dainese 2piece Laguna Seca suit. Im 5'11'', 42chest, 32waist. They fit very snug, as they are supposed to (like a wetsuit, is how they described it in the shop).
I went to the Dainese store in Bristol and the two blokes in the shop were very clued up on fit etc and couldnt have been anymore help if they had tried. Excellent service and the suit was reduced as well.
If theres a Dainese store near Milton Keynes, I would highly recommend a visit.

Seen you work hard on a six pack before GT.

I like a man with a nice one of these :)http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/helsinkvampire/A353E71B-7756-4E68-84B2-7B774192FFB4-1942-000001903E9511FA.jpg

I will eventually have to get something made when I've slimmed down.
One place made me a jacket 3 attempts later had to give up on them I know I'm a odd shape but :(

Plenty of people here have custom leathers I'm sure they will sort you out!

The empty can makes a good campfire cooking pot.
I made a memorable pottage at Windsor festival, many moons ago.

Bike Stop, Stevenage is a Dainese dealer not far from you.

You can get a made to measure Wolf suit from Harpers Race Shop, Leigh on Sea (Southend, Essex) for about the same price as a big name off the peg suit.

Great value, fit perfectly, will last years and mine were no more than a decent off the peg set (I could never find any that fitted properly either).

And the best bit is (aside from the fantastic protection they will give you) if you think about the design a little and work with them you will never see another person wearing the same ones.

Hahaha, Trust me there is no six pack here!
The Wolf leathers sound like a good shout. Might check em out.
Flip- Are they a company? cant seem to find anything on the web! Also where are they based? If you don't mind me asking how much they cost (ball park)? They are very nice!
The chap in the shop said that Dainese wouldn't be a good fit on me but your body dimensions are similar to mine. 6ft 34" chest and 33" waist...

Yes Crowtree are a proper company and widely used among club racers due to them being super 'crashable' with hidden seams and three layers of leather in vulnerable areas and the like.

They are based in Louth, Lincolnshire so just right to book in for a track day at Cadwell Park when you pick them up!!

The best thing to do is drop Alec an email but I have asked him how much he currently charges for a basic suit so will post it here when I hear back.

Other popular made to measure suits around the paddocks I frequent are listed below but perhaps the Desmo Due boys and girls may be able to suggest some others worth a call (?)

If I were you I would talk to as many suit makers that (roughly) fit your budget and see how you get on but one thing I would say is, it is definitely worth the wait to have them made and travelling the distance to get them right and exactly as you want them.

I can recommend the BKS custom suit

expensive - yes

fully bespoke - yes

the last suit you'll buy - probably

will you have to wait - yes but there is a reason for that

and don't worry they will adjust them if you pile on or off the pounds

being a 'lady' I found it impossible to buy off the peg that fitted

these fitted like a glove from day one

Seems too much of a coincidence that am and scott are in Barnard Castle, whats the story there then ?
