Hi,

Im a newbie here so please go easy with me:p

Im looking to add some demonic growl to my exhaust note via some new race cans. Im not looking to wake the dead but somewhere close

Im after some honest opinions of the remus/ducati performance ones offered for an 03 M620sie through official dealers.

I know that as with everything else there are always better out there but im very twitchy about anything that requires CPU/engine mods.

The bikes only got 750 vigin miles on and as Im yet to win the lottery I need to keep my warranty completely in tact.

102db & £375+vat - what do u think?

My budget is 400ish and ideally id like carbon cans with a high mount.

Cheers in advance

Right! Well personally Id recommend Sil Motors (which about 50% of the clubs owners have got I think that have opted for race pipes).

Build quality is superb, and ducatis generally run rich anyway so therefore no mods to the injection are required.

Also, the sils are available in 3 noise levels - turbo nutter (like ive got!), reasonable (what your after I think), and road legal.

Give Stuart a shout @ spareshack (youll get 10% discount for being a member) and hell run you through it.

Whilst the Ducati Performance stuff is good, as you say, they are really just re badged remus's and your paying a bit of a premium for this I think..

Hope that helps. Youll be glad you got some pipes...the noise is addictive..especially when you shut off the throttle:D :D :D

I've got Silmotor on my 620 '03. they are 105db and sound fantastic. They cost £300 from sparesshack.

a few people are selling some cans in the for sale section of this forum.

happy hunting

Ive just had a thought..if you send Duncan a private message, hes just had high level sils on his bike, and there the quiet noise level your after (well..he is getting old:p )....he could send you a piccie (which I know hes got).

Cheers

Thanks for all that - trouble is im easily tempted & "turbo nutter" sounds devilishly good I'll give him a bell.

Are these an easy "on and off" job - if i do need some warranty work It'll probably be impromptu!

Julie

it wont affect your warranty. i had ducati lincoln fit mine . it cost me £17.50 and they checked all the tyre pressure and lights n stuff. just cause they are nice people

If you can use a spanner you can fit these (although dont be a muppet like me and skin your knuckles  ).

Old ones should just pop off no probs with that mileage and new ones will go on as easy. Put a bit of grease or copaslip where they join so you can get them off easy again come MOT time.

Oh, and although I say turbo nutter, truth is I dont think they are that bad to be honest. Better than my 888 (which also has sils)...that thing sets bloody car alarms off !!!!

Englefield Green??

Did I over hear you down at Jagz i ascot sayin that you were gonna buy a monster a few months ago?????

P.s. Go for 'turbo nutter' ones - ive had my sill moto turbo nutters on for months now and ive never been pulled by the babylon (TM) - actually i have - right near the monkeys forhead, and all they did was tell me off for overtakin on a hatched area, on a bend, too fast - no mention of the pipes though. - and i ride round your manor all the time.

Richard_S

Its possible ; ive been to jagz a few times but can't really remember many gory details. that place has that effect on me. bought my bike back in oct after harping on about getting one for ages.

Richard_S

but are these nutter jobs really worth the extra £65+ over the remus ones? may sound a bit tight but I had an off in dec and so had a few fairly huge bike bills of late..

Julie
09-01-2004, 07:42 PM
what happenen with your off?

Richard_S
09-01-2004, 07:45 PM
guy pulled out straight it front of me. only goign about 20 at the time and damage looks fairly light although the bill for the bike and my kit came to 4k. that was the painful part.

Julie

fully comp i hope?
you didnt have to pay did you

Richard_S

it looks like I'll get away with only losing £500 out of my pocket but true cost will only be known when i renew my ins next year. its all a bit dodgy at the mo. it wasn't my fault but you know how the world works. im right at the beginning of all this so won't know the full extent of cost etc for a few months. should be back on the road this month though which should help ease the pain!

Julie
09-01-2004, 07:55 PM
bet your well p'd off cause you only got the bike in october. did it take long to fix?

Richard_S
09-01-2004, 07:59 PM
not fixed yet ; should be all done this month. dec is the worst month for dealing with stuff like this everyones in christmas mode. Im hoping to be all done by the 20th but we will see. learning the hard away about "my local dealer" though; helpful until you buy then service goes out the window! They have sent me revised estimates 3 times now (how hard can it be!!!)

Julie

have you got any tips on insurance?

do's and dont?

things that may help others if in the same situation?

Richard_S
09-01-2004, 08:14 PM
only advice on the whole thing is whatever you do is get as much as possible on the scene. i practically had to beg the bill to attend but did help with the situation. get all the officers numbers the reg, name & address of the other guy and MAKE SURE if you any witness YOU get there details (the police won't give them to you afterwards) .In my case the guy got out at the scene reminded who he was, an old aquaintance, then as soon as the word police was mentioned bailed. Because he left without giving me details it was only through some luck that i got his address and "got on the case". equally the police left sharpish and so ive had to chase them since for info. bottom line is get it all there and then (even if your being rail roaded) because after its all happened even the easiet info is tricky to get hold of. Fortunately for me, i have a brain, and have made a big effort to sort all this out but it has been a huge effort and its only the beginning! ho hum

Rich...ring stu @ spareshack and ask for a deal..hes a top bloke (ive bought 2 sets from him now)...dont forget your club discount also applies. And yes, the sils are worth the extra IMO. Top notch.

And regarding your point about 'accident advice'...When I got knocked off my 916 on the way to brands WSB in '02 (airlifted into the nice intensive care bay in wexham park)..it was so obvious the guy mowed me down (the accident investigators were also sure but because he hit me without even braking, they had no evidence)...but...in all the panic and confusion the two mates I was with forgot to take witnesses details (the helicopter had been and gone by the time the feds had arrived).

There were about 20 people there apparently but coz of the shock and panic of it all, my mates forgot to take details (which obviously I dont blame them for as they got me breathing again !!!) and my solicitors have only managed to get a 50% settlement.

Cant reinforce Richards point enough about getting as much info as you can if you do (god forbid) get into a scrape.

BTW...nuff respect to my mates, the NHS, and Arai for saving my arse !!

Hi Richard ... I'm selling a pair of 5 month old SIL's. Low level aluminium 105db. I had them on a 620. Have a look in the "For sale" Forum.

No response from either spareshack or SID...anyone else got something suitable ? Im a bit old fashioned and refuse to chase people to take my money....

Must be Sil motor racing cans, 105db, low level, standard mount etc.

Ideally VGC or Mint, oval shaped & carbon but as with everything its a buyers market and Im always open to negotiation!!

Cheers :)

I've got dp (remus) high level carbons on my '02 620. They really do put the filling in the sandwich! No injection mods required but I did pop it into my local dealer just to check the running. A slight adjustment was needed and they were well impressed. Said the power is about on par with the 750. Only thing to watch is that when you put the large triangular footpeg frames back on, they sit across the up sweeping pipes (actually scratched my pipes slightly). I replaced them for rear sets and didn't bother with the pillions.

Got dp rearsets but had problems in that at the time they were being sent out without nuts and bolts etc and had to scrounge some from the local dealer. Then found the rearsets came with no switch to connect to the brake light, a slight modification required with a banjo. Finally, no replacement spring to make the brake lever return. Another slight mod and we're on the road. I did mail ducati tech with all my probs so hopefully they've sorted themselves out now.

Bear in mind that with highlevels you don't really want to put panniers on. I'd strongly recommend a ventura luggage kit. The frame is really easy to put on and doesn't take long. In fact, I've left the frame on. The bag is like a tardis and really easy to put on and take off. Remember to take the rear seat cover off though else it might get marked.
