Love the look of that, and it's great they've bought back the wing logo for it.

As far as I can acertain all that has happened is that Ducati have registered the trademark "Ducati Scrambler" in Europe to be used on bikes, clothing, etc. From that MCN have worked out the specs of the new bike and what it will look like  Creative journalism at its best.

Obviously Ducati are unlikely to have registered the trademark without a Scramber on the horizon (although they could just be going through their archives and trademarking all their old models to protect their history), but whether that is a single bike, a family of bikes or whatever is all unknown at this point AFAIK.

MCN - never letting the facts get in the way of a story since 1955.

Interesting, can't be any worse than the Triumph or the Kwaka W850 efforts

Well, if they do make one I hope they do a bit better job than that.
It looks like its retro styling overkill, with many features being the worse for it.
Why put an old school rear mudguard for example, when a close fitting hugger is so much more functional.
I hate retro styling when it sinks to being merely the sales dept's idea of what looks cool enough to sell a few bikes to the fashion conscious masses.

In my ideal world, they'd make it a short stroke, desmo, air-cooled single, with spoked, supermoto wheels ....maybe a 450 and a 600.
In yellow, and with an ally tank option.
And, even more unlikely, a nice, simple carburettor.
Which almost tempts me to ponder what could be done if a low volume specials manufacturer got hold of a few 900 barrels and designed some cases and a crank to suit.
But, back to the real world, I probably wouldn't be able to afford one anyway.

If Ducati do build one like that though, I'd rather have a Hyper.

That would be more retro

I see what they are doing and tbh good luck to them. Its really a GT1000 modified. Its just a bit different but a searching for the extra market of slightly retro look.
Personally I think its good but I don't see the need for twin seat or twin clocks or twin horns or a huge V twin lump to power along the dirt. It needs to shed weight and lose the road tyres or at least put some kind of modern knobblies. Ducati rebranding a single would be better or bring back the single lump.
I wish them luck and hope to see some on the road as I doubt many will go off road.

Didn't they register the trademark in 1962?

I believe that picture is a concept Ducati Scrambler done by Luca Bar in 2011.

Yes it is, but a better concept than what MCN shows!!

Ah yes, I forgot the MCN BS factor. Closer scrutiny of that photo shows a photoshopped mismash of GT1000, Sportclassic and vaguely scrambler-y bits (but they couldn't be bothered to 'shop some knobbly tyres).

Still think it looks great. But I'd be happy enough if they just kept knocking out the GT1000.

I look upon the Monster as Ducatis modern take (when it was released) on the original 750GT. So when I saw that photoshopped "Scrambler" I immediatly thought that it was only a squint away from a passable GT lookalike...Just a sympathetic fuel tank and it's there really...Not enirely sure about wire wheels, but I like the wire mudguard stay.
I reckon it looks a feksight better than any of the current "Retros"....Be interested to see how it wieghs in against a 1975 750 GT.

Tch..! I havn't picked up a copy of MCN since Mick Duckworth got me into trouble with Colin Seely back in 1990....Git:worried:

For me, that is precisely what the monster is.
In fact, my monster ownership is a direct consequence of a deep lusting, held since first spotting the 750GT and S models back then.

That single cyl scrambler concept is much more like what I had in mind, but I'd certainly lose the single sider, which is completely pointless and misplaced on an offroad-styled bike and is another example of "eye candy before engineering".
And the plumbing, obviously.

I'd like to see a super-short stroke engine, along the lines of the panigale (but aircooled), with a (4-valve ?) desmo head and belt drive to the cams.
And spoked wheels shod with supermoto wets.

I'd buy one if I knew the second hand prices would go through the roof like the SportClassics which everybody knocked at the time.
