Hi Guys and Gals.

Just signed in to the forum.

Been biking for near on 30yrs on various bikes.

Always liked the Monster, and naked bikes in general.

About this time last year I decided to trade my Thou' Fireblade for a new M796.

Well it was rude not to. :D

To be honest, I would have liked the 1100 (to make up for some of the missed grunt of the Blade), but extra horses aside, I couldn't see where the extra 3 Grand was!

Couple of "Tasteful" mods... Arrows and Fender Extender. Tail Tidy would be nice, but a standard plate won't go in between the Arrows.

Here she is... Looking good in Arctic White.

Welcome to the forum Mark. That's the best colour scheme in my opinion, white wheels makes it even better. Ask Bex why a 1100 is £3000 more than a 796, she has noticed the difference alright!
The small gap between the exhausts is why I have to have a smaller plate officer........

Welcome along. Yes just go down to an 8x6 plate as its not offensively small and mine gets through an MOT. Nice bike too.

I have thought about dropping a plate size, but there's a particularly ar$ey bike plod round these parts who jumps on things like that before you can blink.

Funny thing is, he will turn a blind eye to open cans (so long as you're not being an absolute berk) and Black visors (daytime only obviously), but will not tolerate small plates.

I need a clean license for my job, so it's a bit of a sticky wicket for me really.

If you can live with it keep it. TBH the tail chops no good in the wet anyhow. My lettering is just 1mm smaller on the plate and that's what is so un-noticeable. Looks ok anyhow.

You're right about plates BB, no points but fine able up to £1000 and DVLA can, if they choose to, withdraw the number plate. I think they would only do that if it was a 'personalised' type. I doubt anyone would care if they withdrew PY12 HGY or whatever.

Not where I was looking, it wasn't. About 1600 quid difference if you didn't care for ABS on the 796, or 900 quid if you did.
Still a great looking bike though.

Well, not precisely to be fair.

That figure included a bit of rounding up and down on both bikes.

796 was a "gnats" over 7 and the 1100 was a "gnats" under 10 (my split second in-head arithmetic gave me 10-7=3).

Spec/performance wise, on paper at least, I couldn't see enough of a difference to warrant the extra wedge.

There are/were other factors to consider too, like the insurance for the 7 is 3 groups lower than the 11, and (probably most importantly) for some reason the seat is about 2 inches shorter on the 7.
