Hello All, im new here and although ive been riding Kawasakis, Bimotas, Honda fireplaces, ive always wanted a MONSTER (Monsta!!!!!) i like the S4 and the New m1000 but there is somthing about the M900 i have always liked maybe cause it is one of the originals, can anyone here help me with what to look out for, I know the clutch is a pain and some people drop a tooth on the front cog, ive also heard about snapping head bolts, but in general is a 94 bike well maintained with 16K on the clock a good buy?, or should i be looking at the new S4, M1000 money is not an issue but id like a nice Monsta!!!!! any advice, PS ill have her within 4 - 6 weeks as im getting very twichy...LOL

The quality of Ducs improve the newer you get. Post 1998 the Texas Pacific group got involved and quality improved. Before then they could be variable and there were very good ones and a few dogs.

Saying that a well maintained and ridden earlier one will have had any snags sorted out by now.

I have a 99 900 and thats done 37,000 miles with relatively little trouble.

Also depends on how much you plan to ride the earlier one and what you pay for it, remember its a 10 year old bike so pay about £2500 tops for one and possibly less at this time of year.

I'm with you - I kinda like the early Monsters best. Mines a 93 M900 and was number 1015 made. If its got a good history I'd say buy it. Mine had done 12800 mikes by April this year and had a history record totally £4500 so someone looked after it! I've done 5500 since with little issue.

I know where your coming from. I love the newer monsters and you cant help admire there build quality (most of the fasteners/brackets on my 600 are made of cheese I think)..but..theres just something about the original series, and I would argue if you intended to keep it, then as long as you dont buy it for silly money then it can only hold its value or even appreciate.

If you get an original red one like pedros, they look great with the black wheels and yellow suspension hoop too.

I also much prefer the graphics on the older bikes and it even his 'monster' on the tank just in case you forget what your riding - good eh ??!!!!

Couldn't agree more Nat, I always preferred the pre TGP logos on my '95 m600. That's why I decided to cheat and use the older logos when I resprayed my '02 900ie dark in metallic red

JJ,

Dom in Essex has a very nice early 900 up for sale - could be just what your looking for?

Hi guys, I love my 97 900 , graphics an' all. But if you want an original absolute minter have a look in Bats at biggin hill in Kent. Its done either 400 or 4000 miles and is pristine original. 1994 but price is nearly 4000k in red. They also had a red 2000 s4 but that might have gone now.

It would have to be gold plated if Bats think they'll get 4k for it, even if it is mint and done only 400 miles

I'd like the build of a later one and the fuel injection (triple valve head would be nice too Mr Ducati?) but i just love the black wheels, goldish frame and the gold forks on mine, spesh the forks. I think the later silver framed/forked ones just look cheap.

Well that M900 was nice but the misuss overruled me, Dang.... she has now insisted that i buy the nice grey one at the shop, (which between you and me is the 2003 S4) So i cant moan, only thing is i have to wait until end of feb,, Oh well, good news is she should be run in for the first ride out.....
