My pride and joy has gone.

Please keep a look out. Theres not another which looks the same in these parts to my knowledge.

Very sorry to hear this, hope it turns up safe and sound.

Guessing you've done the obvious; call police, take a walk around the local area, keeping and eye on eBay, Gumtree and local breakers. Also worth letting local bike shops know (it's not unknown for them to be offered stolen bikes)

Let us know how you get on

If I might suggest we ALL keep a keen eye on EBAY Gumtree etc. These fools just blatently stupidly sell stuff on sometimes. Lets be honest its a bike that is different to most of ours.

Bex knows there's one here for her if she wants it. I took it for a ride today to ensure all is okay (Read, thrash!) and it was fun and went really well. 14000rpm from a V4 anyone? :D

I should add it will fit Bex better than me.

Do not like.

wtf is happening? Ace cafe are posting a few times a week about stolen bikes. some <insert nasty words> gangs must be behind this.

Too late now, but maybe a tracker for when you hopefully get it back.

Good luck. I am feeling your pain.

Thanks for all the messages guys.

Cheers Rally for the very kind offer, I'm itching to ride that bike but without a secure garage to keep it in I'd be lining up for loosing 2 bikes in one weekend. Hugely appreciate your generosity. I'll borrow it another time ;-)

Sent Bex a message about this but... it isn't too hard to set up some auto notifications for keywords on Ebay.

Put in a search for the make of exhaust for example, and get them to email whenever something comes up with that search term.

If it happens to be Bex's we can all go round and collect it!

I'm sure a lot of the current thefts are carried out by organised gangs

Police couldn't give less of a toss if they tried in my own recent experience

The best tool is the net ... Been some bikes recoverd in the last week due to eyes and ears.
GT .... One policeman loaded my stolen bike into his van to save me the " fee" to recover the bike ( £120?).
He was a biker .

That's the biggest gripe with me the fee to " recover" bike :(
It's not your fault :( and you get stung.

Also I know in my case if I got an Insurance payout for 5 times Hectors value it would mean jack :(

So yeah always post online everywhere .
2. Often bikes are stashed nearby.

Flag up anything in the way of special tools they took also as that's where they will slip up!
Good luck .

Crap news, feel so sorry for Bex, such a nice bike, my mate who lives behind me had his new Kwak nicked yesterday afternoon in broad daylight with loads of people around, joy riders though and he got it back last night, albeit busted steering lock and knackered ignition, so there is hope.

.

He11cat, you think thats bad - when I had a classic BSA a number of years ago, on New Years Eve some drunken fools decided to take it out of my back yard for a joy ride, they then realised it had a chain on it, dropped it 5 metres from my back gate, the police were called and rather than put it back in the yard, impounded it and charged me £120 to get it back. So I was £120 poorer, had to go 30 miles to pick it up and it had a lovely dent in the tank. Great New Years that was.

Yes a proper VHF / GSM tracker at the cost of a few hundred quid and a yearly subscription is a good idea but I get so incensed for the need for joe public to have to protect their property at such extra cost when the police really are not bothered by these thefts

DIY trackers are available but again the police are not keen to act and after someone tracking their IPad the other day and getting killed for thier actions to retrieve I dont think this is much of a solution either

bex
03-06-2013, 10:06 AM
The police were given an exact time to the minute at which the van left my house and in which direction. It wouldn't have taken much effort to track the vehicle from a camera at a set of traffic lights nearby and get a plate for example. However not even 4 days after the theft I had a letter through the door saying 'investigation closed'. Meh to them.

Tracker might not be a bad way to go, although Rob's points make sense. In this case it was standard white van job, probably stolen itself anyway.

These guys know you will get another bike so sometimes return. An Almax chain and ground anchor would slow them down.
I guess you're now haggling with insurance company?

Awful news Bex, what are all these cameras for.......

To fine you for minor traffic regulation infringements of course. Someone steals your pride and joy and they don't have time or resources to check the footage but drive down a bus lane and they'll not only record you but send you a nice colour pic in the post along with a link where you can view it yourself. All that for only £80! :cens:

Typical cost a fortune camera's can't even catch true thief's/ criminals.

That's bad!!!
I honestly don't think the victim should be charged.
It's unfair ..
If they catch them hey should force the theif to at least pay that back ..
The guy who stole my last bike got let off even though he was caught with it.
5th offence of stealing bikes .. Left me £300 out of pocket .

Crappy news - I really hope it turns up somewhere for sale and can be recovered.

Sorry to hear your bike was stolen. I bet you were upset, to say the least. I know I would be totally bummed to find my bike had vanished, especially out of my garage. The guts of some people. Some people have no respect for other people or their property. I had a friend who waited two years for a Harley Davidson. He spent $22,000 or something like that for the bike on top of waiting for two years on a waiting list for it. He parked it inside his fence in the back yard, and within 3 days the bike was stolen. Talk about someone who was bummed and ready to kill.

Anyone that buys a 20k+ bike then parks it behind a 'garden fence' for security is asking for trouble
