UK Desmo Owners Club Trackday - Ducatis on Track at Brands Hatch!

Brands Hatch is hosting the first official UK Desmo Owners Club trackday, on Tuesday 27th August 2013.

The trackday will be run by MSV Trackdays and hosted by all four Desmo Owners Clubs, the officially
recognised Ducati clubs in the UK. The Clubs have teamed up to provide Ducati owners with the chance
to take their bikes onto the legendary Brands Hatch circuit for the day.

The day will be divided into 4 groups covering novice (first-time) trackday riders, intermediate riders, fast riders and an additional ACU licence group which will be timed. This ensures that everyone will be able to ride in the group they feel most comfortable with and ensure safety for all riders. Each session will be 15 minutes, with a total of seven sessions on the day.

The cost of the day is £135 per rider, but discounts are available to members of the Clubs* and can be booked direct with MSV on 0843 453 3000 or through the website at http://www.msvtrackdays.com/desmo

Spectators are welcome to join the day, and entry is free. The day will also host Club stands, displays
and trade stands. Tyre services and a dyno will also be present to provide support on the day for riders.**

For more details and information on discounts for Club members, contact your club:

I'm very tempted - just need to check with work about booking that Tuesday off.

For any other trackday virgins - if you're in two minds, go for it! This will be only my 2nd ever trackday - the first was the UKMOC one at Mallory in 2011, and although I was a bit apprehensive, I had a whale of a time, and wasn't the only one. See the thread at: http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=39813&highlight=trackday&page=39

Joking aside, could the experienced and speedy not book into novices to flatter their egos. There were a couple of guys last time out who were in the novices who kept lapping the rest of us 3 or 4 times in a session. Fortunately words were had at lunchtime and they were in the inters after lunch.

They have to be leather and they have to be able zip to a leather jacket 3/4 of the way round your waist usually.

I've had them with the little race bike-

On my last time there I got told that if I brought the bike there again and it was that loud I would be to told to F*** Off and don't come back until it's quieter!!

I even pointed out that it was the same person that tested it previously (still had the pass stickers on it) but he wasn't happy about me saying that either. When out on track people said it wasn't as loud as many of the modern bikes but as the noise tests are done at 5500rpm (it only revs to 8000) on the single it is using a lot of its' maximum revs to be tested. The MSV (& ACU) noise test limits can be found here:

http://www.msvtrackdays.com/bike-testing-noise-limits

However, I am not sure how you know what revs you're testing them at without a rev counter (as is the case on many Monsters) to go by so best be aware of that when you get tested unless of course they have a portable one that takes off from an HT lead in the same way as my Scitsu does on the racer.

The last time I raced the bike was at Snetterton and it was loud then but passed noise tests there (kind of) but all the MSV circuits (amongst others i.e: Mallory Park) are getting stricter as residents complain about noise to their local councils which in turn enforce restrictions on the circuits to comply with.

All being well I will get along to Brands (if there are spaces left) but I'm racing at the Classic Festival at Donington mid August so I can't commit until after then. I also have a new exhaust so it should pass noise tests no problem although Donington is an 'Unsilenced' meeting so I can get checked without worry of exclusion from racing.

If anyone fancies Donny it'll definitely be a good meet with the Ducati Symposium out on track along with many other great bikes from the past plus more than 40 races over the three days (I've got one Friday, two Saturday and one Sunday). More details here:

http://www.donington-park.co.uk/events/2013/08/09/classic-motorcycle-festival/

Is your ignition single fire or wasted spark? does the tacho have two settings? if so a canny trackdayer could get it tested at 2750RPM ;-)

The noise restrictions a Donington are hilarious, given the nearest neighbour is one of the UK's busier airports.

Rob, my little race bike has a twin plug conversion and runs a total loss Lucas Rita Ignition powered by a 12v battery to two 6v coils wired in series firing both plugs at the same time.

As for fooling the noise test, it's not really possible as Scitsu tachos are calibrated to whatever engine configuration they are required to meter, are self powered and take their pick up by running a sensor wire along the appropriate number of plug leads (in my case one as it's a single cylinder engine and both plugs fire together).

On the other note, Donington certainly is an odd circuit when it comes to their noise management as you quite rightly say with East Midlands Airport a short distance away which has cargo flights through the night is mental especially if you're staying in a tent in the paddock.

But on the plus side they seem to have a reasonable amount of un-silenced meetings which is just as well for the up coming Classic Festival as anyone who has heard a grid full of open piped Manx Nortons and G50 Matchless's or Yamaha TZ's will know what I mean.

It's less than 25 miles to get home.

They're not quite bald yet but not sure how quick these things wear towards the end of life:

Plenty rubber on the edge, I'd say, but I'm aware the profile isn't what it once was!

Just wondering if I'd be better of with some new PR3's, or the tail end of something that was arguably more sport focussed.

- Is it 3 or 4 groups? The opening post of this thread says it's "4 groups, 15 minute sessions" whereas the MSV link says it's "3 groups, 20 minute sessions".
- How do you book and get the discount?

They have ditched the ACU group and put those fella's in the fast.

Top pic, Rob! Poetry in motion.

Was utterly ace to see everybody, and big thanks to Jo for the tea and sarnies and, of course, the custard creams. :)

And bloody ace of Albie to personally deliver my bolts - thanks dude!

This is just a frickin' awesome club - you're all brilliant.

That is all.

Great day and good to see everyone.

This is the first time in three visits to brands that I didn't find the grass so pretty happy, but sore, at the moment.

Funkatronic went off at Graham Hill bend earlier in the day, but managed to get out later after a few repairs

Don't think he dumped it at clearways as well

Great day everybody, finally found a little more speed later in the day once I'd found my way round. After my first "sighting lap" in the mist wasn't sure how the day was going to go having not been to Brands before, but really enjoyed it in the end.
Thanks Jo for the cafe and Guy Burton for sorting a seized bleed nipple on Liz's bike.

Yes, a big thanks to Jo for the 'caf', Guy and Stafford for fixing the clutch on the 750, Duncan for being pit crew and a visit from the newly wedded Mr and Mrs Munnings! Great to see everyone and glad all were safe! Another fantastic track day - I loved Brands Hatch :woot:

It went ok then Steve?
By the way, the van got me back okay. It turned out to be the alternator clutch.

Echoing others it was good to meet a couple of new faces and say hello to some previously met ones, albeit rather briefly as it was too nice a day not to be riding so didn't stay too long and enjoyed the long way home instead.
