View Full Version : MOB Weekend 2013

Albie

Hi Guys and yes the UKMOC weekender has now happened and now sadly is done but the good news is we can do it all again in Belgium in September in our usual Hotel. So who is for coming this year because as we now know we have to get names down so we don't miss out on rooms. We over the last year never filled the hotel completely so be quick and you will only get that place if you book a crossing and that my friend is your deposit.

As far as I am aware its the back to normal third Sunday in September the 15th so the general consensus will be Saturday 14th to either Sunday or Monday the 16th. See you there then.

For the ones who have no idea of hotel heres a link

Carine said the Ducati N.Europe 'Dealer Day' may conflict, I'm sure she'll let us know as soon as it's finalised. Seems a shame if they force changes on such a well established event.

From memory the B&B is limited to about 25-30 places, so it looks like it'll be a full house in no time

For the benefit of us possible MOB trip 'newbies', is there a link to the necessary information on ferries and costs? I presume you are all trying to book the same ferry?

Hi New Mon. Theres plenty of info on past threads to look at but the basis on what we do here is just like our weekender UK but just 2hrs ride over the channel. The room costs on average 55 euros per person per night inc breakfast. Rest of meals is extra but reasonable. Cost of ferry depends on which one but around £50 or slightly more on chunnel but its quicker. No one does anything specific its personal choice on whether you want train or ferry.

Rough guide
ferry £50 or tunnel need to look up
Hotel 2 nights 110-120 euros
Fuel for me from kent maybe £50 both ways
Beer and food and spending money

If you are interested whack your name down and we will get prices when we know we have interest that we do already.

Was I hallucinating last night when I saw the MOB website claiming that this year's Monsterday was going to be on 22 September, or have the Belgians changed their plans?

I could make it if it was 22nd, but can't make the weekend of 13th-15th! Curses!

The Process has started and the emailing began. Please anything like suggestions etc please ask put forward openly. The Belgians also missed the silly fun party bit so suggestions on a theme for the hell of it.
There was also talk of trying to get to Buggenhout area dinnertime Saturday by TOM but have no idea why but whether you wish to is entirely up to you as we are adults and do as you please and see fit. Hmm that's up for discussion too.
It seems I have this again but it doesn't have to be crowbar'd away from me it can be given. Its always a pleasure this one and creates no problems or headaches like I expect Char and Martin and anyone who did Arrow Mill had.
Thanks for the great support.

Albie,

Tom did talk about being able to do other things on the Saturday. Can't remember either, but said that we needed to be their by lunchtime to enjoy a full day out and make a weekend of it.

It maybe because this year will be the Belgians 10th anniversary

They did tell me last September they were hoping to make it a special event in 2013

Tom had mentioned a Brewery tour for a bit to do on Saturday but the tours are at 12.00pm so would require people getting there pretty early, especially for a crossing.

Sadly and I really mean that is the news that Alan cannot come along as he booked a holiday due to the other date.

I have had a reply from Joris

Good evening Caroline & Andy,

As usual we’ve blocked all our rooms for the UKMOC-members from Saturday 14 till Monday 16 September 2013.

You can find our rates for UKMOC 2013 as an attachment. You’re paying the 2010-2011 rates and we also made a difference in single / double use.

Maybe we will have 8 instead of 9 double/twin charming rooms because of renovation works.

Do I keep all our rooms in option till the 1ste of July or do you already have a final guest-list?

With kind regards,

Joris De Pauw

So we are off and just need to get the places filled and decide who will really want to come and how you are travelling.

Prices are reduced to 2010/11 for UKMOC please note...

I'm interested in tagging along this year, but as you all probably know by now, my finances are limited.
However, I reckon that I can fund the basic trip by bringing back my legal quota of cheap tobacco.
B&B costs would scupper my plans though, so I'm wondering if there's any chance of finding somewhere to pitch a tent ? Somebody's back garden maybe, or even a quiet spot outside town where I could do a bit of guerrilla camping ?
Any suggestions of who to contact re. the above would be welcome.

There are a couple of MOB members on this forum, might be a good place to start for some local knowledge.

Regarding the Saturday idea: what time do you plan to arrive at the hotel?
oh and make sure there something in your stomach if the idea is worked out - not too much though :)

They seemed fine about camping in the garden/field at the hotel in previous years - not sure about cost you may be as well to contact direct and ask

Albie is having trouble with his emails so has asked me to have a look at sorting the rooms with Joris.
Please book your train or ferry and confirm on list below, once ferry is booked you can be added to room list.
Others that have booked please let me know what room type you would like and if/who you would like to share with, I will then sort out the rooms.
We must let Joris know asap as he needs to let the rooms we will not be using.

Hope all above makes sense, if not reply on post or pm me.

Anyone know having a postage stamp sized number plate is likely to cause problems on the Chunnel? I know that they use ANPR's for cars, anyone know if they use a similar method for bikes?

Cheers.

I have a slightly smaller plate and not had a problem, you have to show your booking slip, think the plate reconition is for forward facing plates !

Hi you guy's (and girls),
Happy to see so many of you come over this year, we were planning a visit to the Duvel brewery but as the last tour is at 2 pm we won't be able to make it. As a matter of fact I won't be able to join you on saturday as 2 of my friends are getting married and I have to eat and drink as much as possible on their expense :-)
Hoping to get out of bed in time on sunday but it won't be with the Monster as she will not be repared by then of being hit by a Japanees last week. Might bring the old superlight.
Hope to see you in a couple of weeks.

Black Bob - Le tunnel sous la Manche - 8.20 am on 14th
bex - Eurotunnel booked - 8.20 am on 14th.

So all these lucky people are coming along. That's another great attendance from UKMOC as per usual. TBH I was thinking of ducking out this year as solo and other reasons but I am now glad I am in the usual bunch of well supported events. We have all the rooms bar 1 which I have been told is now taken by one of Joris's regulars so that's also good news. Other news I have been told is that ALL the entrance road is now blocked paving too so no more gravel stuff.
Lets make this a good one and lots of fantastic smiley pics and fun stories and laughs. Don't forget your silly TIES or you WILL pay the penalty. Just for the evening opener on Saturday night. I have arranged some Stones music if the boys wish to entertain us if they feel up to it. Lets hope its sunshine all the way and no need to even consider wets. After last years torrent on the way home I do not wish a repeat again.
Plan is to all head for Eurotunnel and meet there so as everyone meet in the right place on time. If you plan to meet up before its up to you.
So 12 days and counting

The breath test kit legislation has been dropped/postponed indefinitely now, as has the requirement for wearing hi vis vests in France after further mass protests.

So to be clear, there are no stupid rules (breath test and high viz, riding while patting your head and rubbing your stomach etc) that the French would like us to comply with?

Clothes, wallet, phone. The rest I can either buy or do without (famous last words!)

No idea about that one.

Well the bike has again changed colour again and in solo mode :mand::cry: Looking to get her shiney in the next few days as working solid until weekender so no breaks for 3 weeks and need to refuel her before. At least the weekend will be relaxed  maybe.
Tie is being manufactured now and phase 1 has started and now phase 2 has been ordered on Ebay and then can be assembled. Caroline likes it so that's good and I hope some of you will be impressed at least for effort.
So its 8 days to go now .....:mand:

i have also heard this, found this on the web....

it has to be dayglo orange, be 6x4, and must have the letters M.U.G. (motorcyclist unite group) written in marker pen neatly on it, and then fastened securely to the back of your helmet

see you there mate

The helmet sticker law has been in place in France for over 20 years, but rarely enforced up until now. There have been an increasing number of riders in Paris and other cities getting stopped and fined for non-compliance, but as yet no record of a UK visitor getting the same treatment. Not really keen to plaster my Bell helmet with crappy stickers at all, so I'll either not bother, find stickers that can be removed easily afterwards, or use my old Roof Boxer and sticker that instead. We won't be riding after dark so any reflective stickers will be useless in daylight anyway.

Hope so Alan he was very keen. I was nearly never there at one point but glad I did go. I have to admit I hated Saturdays rain as I was riding blind with glasses on covered in spray. My AGV lid is SHI TE in damp and rain. I couldn't see to keep up around the lanes and ended up without glasses and visor up most of the time. Lucky I am long sighted but it was annoying. I got up so early on Saturday to be there on time at Tunnel that I was knackered Saturday night. I thoroughly enjoyed Sunday and the night music until around 3 when we had to turn in. Luckily GT allowed me to have around 8 hours sleep in the 2 nights lol.
I already have a plan for a challenge at our own weekender subject to a friend arranging said item but it will cause amusement and a great photographic opportunity.

AlanC thank you for taking over the organising of the rooms. I know its not an issue for Belgium due to Joris etc but its a headache trying to juggle peoples preferences around at times but thankfully we all get on so well its brilliant.
Can I also thank the newcomers for coming along and having the trust in us for you to enjoy yourselves. Without all of you it wouldn't be as much fun. In all honesty I missed my Caroline big time but I have never seen as many happy faces at a Belgium weekender other than the Wigs and Shirts ones. That just proves we needed a theme and it worked. That was Alans idea really but I kind of enforced the issue.
And Mrs Harrison you was brilliantly funny.

Well, i arrived home a day later than planned, but had a good trip, shame the naughty bike played up and caused me trouble, it will soon be on Ebay or piston heads for anyone who might wish to buy,

I lost my waterproofs coming home on the first leg of the motorway, only to find at the second fuel stop after breaking down i had stripped my carbon tank protector and key guard thinking it was this that might have been causing me trouble, this i also lost whilst hammering down the motorway to catch a ferry at approx ***mph

so, apart from missing waterproofs, lost carbon, non starting bike due to electrical gremlins....

I had a f**kin great weekend

Thanks to all that made it possible, the Belgiums, Alan for the hotel, and Albie for making me buy a Volvo Cambelt
