View Full Version : Won't Rev Cleanly

I'm on my way to getting a Ducati for the Weekender and despite missing a few parts (for the exhausts) it's looking good-ish.

I got the bike started finally and it fired up and idles fine (after a little adjustment on the idle screw).

But it won't rev cleanly at all.

The revs will climb slowly, but if you crack the throttle more than partially the engine strugles, then dies.

No idea why? Having never had the carbs off, I think this is the next job for this afternoon.

I'm open to suggestions...

On a separate note, the Remus Ti Cans sound nice an rumbly at idle (much louder than my SBKs) but more gruff. The older M600 on SBK has much more of a bark to it.

fuel starvation? summat blocked, filter/ fuel line?
Air leak? although you say it idles ok.
Anybody else with ideas?

A primary check to make before worrying about the carbs is the air bleed into the tank.
A simple check is to run the motor till it starts choking up on you the open the filler cap, if it is a bit difficult to open and you hear a little gaspy suck of air when it opens then the overflow/air vent is blocked, clean out the pipework and it'll all be fine.

Cheers, I'll give that a go. Off to carry on with it now!
