Alright then, have to much time at work.

Could some one confirm to me size of pistons on 1000DS motor, is it 94mm stock?

If so then 98mm piston would give 1078cc or there abouts?

I have also seen 100mm pistons giving 1123cc but would that not make everything to fragile?

Finally stock compression piston is 9:5:1 yes? What would be the best compression to aim for on road bike, would 12:1 be to much on DS motor?

A DS motor would fit a 900 monster frame no problem but what about IE airbox, would that fit?

Final question how much do DS motors go for and does anyone know of one for sale for good money?

Uh yes except some stupid price cams is there a better upgrade cams, would ST2 cams be better then stock 1000DS? Engine would be built for more low and mid range torque first and a bit more BHP.

1000ds has a stock bore of 94mm correct !

98mm pistons will indeed give you 1078cc

For 100mm pistons you will need to have the cylinders bored oversize and steel liners inserted, next machine the crankcase to accept the bigger barrels, then inspect them every 500km and replace both barrels @3000Km if they have not cracked before you reach that mileage.

12.1 is way to much for a road motor on pump fuel, 10.5 or at a push 11.1 going higher will result in lots of garage time

i.e airbox will fit with a bit of jiggling its pretty much the same as a carby airbox

1000 ds motors change hands for between £800 - £1200 if you can find one, most seem to come up for sale in the US so add shipping and duty makes it prohibitively expensive

St2 cams do have a better profile than stock ds but that's irrelevant as they will not fit the DS heads, you have several options DP cams (no longer available from Ducati) never seen any second hand these were not cheap as they were always sold with an ECU, so that leaves one of the after market makers like V2 (no longer producing) part you need is V2-03-300 these are rarer than R&R stuff:mand: Kaemna still make good cams for around €750 or NCR cams for something like €900

Clearly your Xmas bonus is going to be good this year:chuckle::chuckle:
