After work last night I let the bike warm up for about 10 mins on tick over and then left. The bike was running very roughly which I assumed was caused by carb iceing , so I pulled over to let the beast warm up for a bit. I noticed that the exhaust manifold on the front piston was glowing red hot! Which I don’t think is normal. What I was thinking was if the carb was iced up allowing fuel to flow all the time, could this heating be caused by fuel burning in the exhaust? Anyone got any idea’s ?

Ta ever so....

Sounds like unburnt fuel is getting past the exhaust valve, or the ignition is over advanced. When were the valve clearances last checked, and does it only happen on the front pipe as in theory the rear pipe should run hotter?

I had a look at the back pipe and it looked okay. I'll have a look at the valve clearances.

Thanks

Hi Mike.

It sounds like you might have dropped an exhaust valve.

Drop the cover off and make sure the closing shim is still fixed on the valve stem.

Cheers (and good luck)

Lee.
