View Full Version : Diavel impression

Visited the dealer last Saturday to have the (excellent) R&G heated grips fitted and test drove the Diavel carbon, sadly not for me as a viable monster replacement.

I found it very difficult to turn at town speed (apparently due to the 240 rear tyre and longer forks), the steering is very floaty low speed (much less flickable than the monster), the foot peg too much in the way (to the extent than you have to spread your legs when stopping to avoid hitting them (good job the seat height is low for shorty like me), in "urban" mode (100 bhp) it feels flatter than the evo, and the stock can sounds unremarkable.

Looks imposing though and the techonology is convenient (maps options / keyless / electronic steering / comprehensive info display etc).

Interested to know if any monster owner has the same impression?

One of my Emirati friends just sold his 1100 Evo and Paul Smart to be replaced by a Diavel.

Personally I think he's mad but it all depends on your riding / location of riding. Here it's all straight roads so most people like cruisers / Harleys / Diavels etc.

His initial thoughts were h*ll of a lot power/torque - lovely ride (for the above reasons) but does it provide the same level of fun as his previous Ducatis......NO!

So true...power/torque ≠ fun.

Well - I've just bought one.....

Difficult to compare against the EVO. The sheer size, seating position, and extra weight gives it a totally different experience. Its been a long time since I sat 'in a bike' rather than tilted forward and high up. It takes a bit of time to ride it like you would your Monster, forget all the above and it handles extremely well, its just having the confidence to throw it into bends, its equally as rewarding. Leave it in sport mode at 162 bhp and the power is nothing short of mind blowing. You're right, the right footpeg is awkward ( bit like the Streetfighter ) and better to use the instep of your foot which, to me feels a bit odd at first. I'm 6' 4 and feel very at home on it, my wife said its the first bike I've seen you on which you look comfortable on ! :worried:

It probably isn't as 'flickable' round the bends but its a lot better than you imagine and when you see an open road in front of you, open it up, it really is something else...
