Dunno why or where I've read this but there are laptops (PC size 15" screen) running Android OS, is this correct or was I tripping out on lunch time whilst reading stuff on the interweb?

It's just an OS, you could install it on just about any x86 platform.
Download the android-x86-1.6-r2.iso file (google it) and burn the ISO image to a CD or a USB stick. Run the lappie up and tell the BIOS to boot from CD or USB.
You get the choice to run it without installation or install it as the sole OS. As it uses a GRUB boot loader you could also have a dual boot with windows/Linux and Android.

Peasy basic stuff

Or if you want to buy it all preinstalled then look here (http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en/chrome/devices/)

Unless you a way of always connecting to the net then they are little use imo.

NickJ, I'm not getting what I was expecting, that link you told me to find doesn't give me and ISO. Though I'm not too sure what and ISO is

.ISO is a CD/DVD image

You'll find the iso file here
http://www.android-x86.org/download
If it's for a laptop just pick the nearest by manufacturer and model. You need to be awate that the installs are a bit specific to match chipsets, video drivers etc.
So anyway get the cloest match and copy the .iso file to a CD or USB. Windows 7 understands what these files are and will do this for you, XP will need something like magiciso.
Set your laptop to boot from CD OR USB if you have the iso on a stick and your hardware supports booting from a usb device.
At the start up screen that'll load chose the first option "Live CD Run Android without installation". This will let you try the android version on your hardware without installing it.
This will let you try everything and see if it works without wiping your laptop.

It'll also work in suns virtualbox, this is a bit of software that lets you run different operating systems in a virtual environment. AFIK this will install android without too much hassle.

Not a laptop as such, but it works like one and runs Android, plus you get a tablet when you remove the keyboard. Pretty good bit of it by all accounts but a bit pricey when you consider you could buy a decent laptop for the same money.

I Believe windows 8 is a phone and tablet operating system (as it is touch screen controled), as well as a lap top and pc system.

I'm running Ububtu Desktop (http://www.ubuntu.com/download) in VMware Player (https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/free#desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_player/5_0) on a Windoze 7 laptop, it found all the devices automagically and seems to work well.
I've yet to be sold on 8.
