Could be interesting or just an inflated S2R 800 lump

If the story is right then that won't be an S2R 800 engine. They are talking 115 bhp and you would never get that out of an air cooled 2 valve engine. Lets hope that if they are putting a water cooled lump in then it will be bit prettier than previous efforts, rather than a superbike engine which was only ever designed to hidden away.

If you look at the area around the bottom of the head stock ,there is what looks like a radiator.

Emission rules are in short killing off air cooled motors. My guess a 820cc water cooled 2V. That could deliver 115bhp at crank. Also remember it is 115 on factory bench in perfect conditions. Road one would be more likely to be 110 on crank so about 100 on wheel. I seen 944cc water cooled 2V from st having easy 98bhp.

The smart money is bet on a detuned 848 watercooled lump

Possible but that means end of 2V forever.

Maybe it will be the replacement 'hot' monster so like a replacement for the R models?? I don't think they would get rid of the 2v models

They may not have a choice... unless they go watercooled as well :worried:

Yes that is a said fact they now have limited options:

- Kill 2V air cooled design and put 4V water cooled to everything - cheapest.
- Develop 2V slightly towards less air pollution but that will mean adding water cooling and some R&D cost for sake of keeping 2V engine. That would mean simplicity of it is thing of past, it gets heavier with no real power gain.
- Put some serious R&D in to air cooled 2V motor and make serious changes - expensive.

With new exhaust emission rules no new 2V ducati will pass, even BMW is talking about scrapping boxer design.

unfortunately ever more stringent noise and emissions regs mean this is inevitable.

There are several suspensions of factory visits leading up to EICMA, so new models are definitely being prepared.

Slob there is a good side to this. In not to distant future when 2V engine is still going strong we will be a defiant minority by default. Still polluting earth while rest moved to electric ;)

And proud of our air cooled naughtiness...

Hypermotard, multistrada and roadster.

Aimed right down the neck of Triumph and BMW. Competition for Street Triple and Tiger and BMWs 800 range.

Totally new engine with high torque by the looks of it.

Hide the rad, don the cylinders with fake fins :)
