Hi Guys

Just recently got a Monster 796 so time to start with the mods! Was looking to get rid of the passenger foot pegs to tidy the bike up and found these on ebay:

They look good and are really cheap- 139 euros (plus 29 euros p & p) only thing is you need a longer rear brake hose and that is not included.

What do you think and is there a cheaper alternative?

Cheers, Greg

The only thing is they are pictures of a 696, how will they look on a 796? Also, is cheap good? What happens if they fail?

There are also pictures of them fitted to a 796 but these were the close ups so that is why I posted these pictures. I understand what you say about being too cheap but may be worth a go- a mate had Bonamici (?) rearsets on his GSXR and a bolt sheard off the foot rest when we were at Le Mans this year (he paid over £300 for these) so price is not always an indication of quality! I have also bought some Hong Kong "Pazzo" levers for £21.99 and they are just as good as the real thing quality wise. I will perhaps leave the rearsets for the moment though and wait for the NEC bike show.

Personally I'd want to know what position those rearsets put the pegs in compared to the original peg position. That would help me to determine if they would suit me.

Not all adjustable rearsets have the same adjustability and not all will have a setting that is the same as the original pegs. For some the lowest and furthest forward position is still higher and further back than the original pegs. That may or may not be what you want.

I know that for the M1100 the stock rearsets from an S2R/S4R can be fitted with a little bit of work, so maybe they would fit a 796. A second hand set might be even cheaper than the Gekos.

P.S. I have some S4R rearsets for sale. See this thread http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=45103

Some one on here has fitted them to a 796 as far as I know. but it took some fiddling and making some washers or something.

I am sure if you have a search you will find the post.

Though I might be wrong.

I was wrong, it wasn't for a 796.

From now reading the link about the gecko rearsets (although not for the 796) I think I will not get them despite the favourable price. I really wanted something that just bolted on without any messing about. The idea of getting the S4R original pegs and making them fit could be a winter project. Alternatively, if someone had their standard pegs for sale I could grind off the passenger pegs that way there would no fiddling about with longer brake lines etc.
