Hi All

Just to inform you all I've just changed my front sprocket on my m900ie for one with a tooth smaller (15t to 14t) and the differance is incredible, the bike is much more user friendly at lower rpm, this mod is a must for everybody.

Cheers all and merry christmas

Chas,

What sort of difference has this made to the revs/mph indicated in top gear. I was contemplating putting a bigger rear cog on next year, perhaps +2 teeth on standard to improve pick up in the lower gears. Thought the 15 to 14 tooth swap on the front might make the bike too revvy at my normal 80-90mph cruise in top, and maybe effect fuel consumption?

Not that much differance as far as I can see probably about 250 ish rpm. Top end should still be OK 6th gear like an overdrive anyway.

Top gear like overdrive! I used to be ablr to get mine up over 8000 rpm in top on standard gearing! I now have 14T front and 40T rear and hit the rev limiter in top at an indicated 130mph. This does make the bike a bit revvy for cruising around but is fun for a blast. It is probably a bitt ott for the road, bur great on the track. For road I would go from the 38T standard to a 40T rear with the standard 15T front (or the cheaper alternative is to drop to a 15T front)

got to agree, much easier around town and less of what is scientifically known as "judder"

I found my m900 a bit lumpy until I took one tooth off the front, this made top gear usable whilst keeping the speed sensible. My Buell was even worse, standard gearing meant you couldn't use top (5th) below 90 mph, it just wouldn't pull it without labouring the motor. That was quite dear to fix needing a pulley and a speedo calibrator, about £200. I now have anS4 and it's gearing is a bit high aswell, into a headwind today at 5500 in top needed dropping to 5th to make the motor happy again. Same as the m900 top is a bit of an ornament on standard gearing because you can't use it at lower revs without hurting the big ends.

Just in case any of you fancy a bash at trials riding on your duc', I got a 13 tooth gearbox sprocket from Daytona this morning by mistake (I ordered a 14)

It's been a while since we heard the 'D' word mentioned on the forum, looks like their "improved" customer service has a long way to go?

I took one tooth of the front sprocket on my S4-as said before the bike was then alive-much much better,From what i can remember it lifted the revs by about 500 at 80mph-I seem to have 4500rpm and 70mph from somewhere in 6th-anyway i have now traded for an S4R and that has exactly the same gearing in 6th as the S4 had with one tooth less--maybe Ducati read these Forums??

39t up to 41 on the back, much better everywhere except M-ways, it will only pull about 127 flat out and is revving a bit higher.
Probably 40t rear is the best comprimise
