Not sure if ive already posted a similar thread in the past as i type this.

Anyways, Done 4 trackdays on the monster, got the bug big time. Used to ride the bike to work every day but finding i dont so much.

Spent quite a bit on the S4 now but starting to get to the point where the modifications are making it less pleasant as a road bike. The new rear sets ate far too high an awfully uncomfortable and now my mrs can't come out on the bike.

Just wondering whether to put it back to almost standrd and buy a 748/916 and fit the forks and stuff to that instead.

Is there such a thing as best of both worlds?

buy a cheap 600 jap trackbike, easy to find a good one with good bits on it.

Better riding position, cheap easy to find spares. If you're trackdaying sooner or later you will bin it, why mess up a decent bike?

Early R6 or CBR600 and Bobs your uncle.

Will come with decent (ish) suspension and reasonably quick out of the box with spares a plenty on Ebay cheap.

avoid early R6 most unreliable engine, they snap cranks and gear boxes around go for later ones .

Only ever ridden one 600 (on the road) and absolutely hated it. Utterly gutless. No power at all under 9000rpm. My mate who i trackday with keeps telling me the same but that one short stint on one has given me a mental block to ever wanting one. Might hire one for the day and see how I get on.

Already droped the S4 once on the road and once on track, it's no longer "too nice". Mostly bolt on bits but the tank ks dented and a couple of scratches on the frame now.

S4RS are silly money, they're not twice the bike the S4 is.
