Cracked Engine Casing

OK so I've gone and cracked my casing rushing to get it on the bike tonight:nash::nash: (left hand side)

After a lot of searching around on ebay I need some advice.

My S4's engine is a 996 engine out of an early 05 S4R, so my question is; does anyone know definitively what my options are on the bay as a direct replacement? There aren't any early S4R generator (left side) casings on there but there are loads of similar looking casings - even an 06 999 and a 2010 Multi look pretty identical. Can I shlap any 996 casing on there??

Why don't you get it repaired.. or is the damage too bad?

Its pretty bad, major crack down one side and a bit came off. From what I understand any water cooled gen cover will bolf on??

Early ones had dual pick ups and single phase alternator

You've done a great job.
If I'd reassembled mine it would now be a ikea wardrobe :)
I just had to find half a bike and wheels to get the 400 sorted then run about getting paint done and coating all over East Anglia!

I have found a replacement but at £150 incl postage its rubbing salt in the wound

I think Testastretta (998/999 etc onwards) cases are different. 996 is a desmoquattro with 3-phase alternator so a 996 or late model ('99 on) 748 should fit but not 916 or early 748 as they were single phase.
