View Full Version : Calne Bike Day 2012 28th July

Stafford

Just a reminder that on the 28th once again for the 12th year Calne will be awash with bikes!
UKMOC will have a stand there so why not A: pray for good weather B: come along and show off your bike and have a look around town at all the other stands and stuff to see.

Details from the website:
http://calnebikes.freehostia.com/
Follow A4 to Calne Town Centre, Wiltshire, SN11 0EN, between Marlborough and Chippenham.

This year we will be awarding ‘Most Appealing’ trophies in three categories:

- vintage bikes

- classic bikes

- contemporary bikes

so that all bikes will be covered.

It will be very informal and judged by a walk around the bikes present when judged. The trophies will be presented early afternoon.

Ride-Ins and Ride-Outs

Helmet Bar

Trade Stalls

Bands and Entertainment all day

Food and Refreshments

…And for the ‘icing on the cake’ and by kind invitation of the Marquis of Lansdowne, the finale of the day will again be a Ride-Out in style to Bowood House (www.bowood.org) for music and refreshments – several hundred bikes, photo opportunity, live music and hot food (please note that there will be no toilet facilities so please use town facilities before the Ride-Out!).

A great day out for all and get the vibes here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6KeLtR47pQ (copy and paste into your browser) - courtesy of our friends in the Lions!

The event has been increasing in attendance in recent years and town centre space is getting squeezed so…..

A plea to all coming – if you park on pavements PLEASE leave enough room for a pushchair/wheelchair to get past WITHOUT having to go into the road. We have very understanding local police but things must not be dangerous for spectators and visitors. In this context note also that traffic restrictions and parking bays continue to operate as per the displayed notices.

Sorry you can't make but it was hardly your fault!

As for a BBQ, if there is an overwhelming desire I'll nip down the Co-Op and buy all of their burgers. :flamed:

Thanks To Liz and Stafford for organising the stall etc..

What a great weekend! Thanks to Liz and Stafford for organising the UKMOC stand and to the weather gods for allowing the sun to shine.

Cheers to all my hosts Char and Liz/Stafford for putting me up Friday/Saturday. I was having too good an evening to leave :yoparty:

Giles kindly led a scenic route back eastward on some fun roads, mostly dry, before I hit the M25 straight into traffic mania and got a good old soaking.

Feels great to get some miles on, that university malarky is fading to a distant memory. Alls well that ends well eh; see you all again soon

What a fantastic day in Calne. This was my second visit to the bike day thanks to Liz & Stafford letting me stay with them again and it was great, Where else can you be sat in the sun surrounded by hundreds of bikes and then have a V10 8ltr bike rock up and park a few feet away. :eyepopping:
Thanks again to Liz and Stafford for sorting the stand and feeding/ providing accom for me and Heather.

Considering I almost didn't go, I'm really pleased I rocked up. What a great day/weekend - nice turn-out of Italian exotica. Cheers to Char for leading to Calne, to Liz & Stafford for the logistics & hospitality of making the weekend work, and to Bex for the company on the return - soz for state of your Monster following the weather breaking - glad you enjoyed the route.

It's great getting to know you Gals & Guys better, conversation and company was fun. Good also to put a couple new faces to names. Does anyone know if Gordon's arrived yet? :look:

It's the people who make it work! :ukm:

Good to catch up with folks again.

I love the diversity of bikes you see at the Calne bike day, from the excellent turnout of Monsters and assorted other Ducatis on the UKMOC stand (mostly, but not entirely, out of Stafford's shed), Brit iron classics (shiny Nortons and the chicken-pattern painted BSA Bantam), a disproportionate number of Guzzis including a rather lovely cafe racer, all shiny and silvery, to (at the other end of the taste spectrum) the turbo-charged Honda Super Four, a large collection of Scrapheap Challenge rat-trikes and that V-Max thing painted in a hideous shade of institutional pale green.

Thanks to Scrapps for tipping us off about the scout hut cake stall and BBQ.

Had to be said Altaian, a few people didn't recognise your bike without the mountain of luggage! ;)

Susan and I dropped in - not having kept up to date with UKMOC goings on, or this thread - and was floored to see my old Monster (now Scrapps' "The Shiney One"!) gleaming at me from accross the street.

Great to catch up -especially when it is unexpected.

1000s of Hardley Abelsons, so anything else was interesting!

A Fab day

I have never seen a bigger selection of bikes in one place and its free.
If you ever get a chance to go its worth the effort.
