Practicing starts tomorrow - lets hope the weather stays kind.

Good luck to Stuart (& pit bitch Stafford) who just called in prior to signing on and drunk all our coffee & robbed me of all my DVDs

Best of luck to Stuart, and hope the bike behaves so that Stafford isn't kept up all night having to fix it! (Hope that wasn't why they needed to raid all of Bonzo's coffee supplies ...)

It seems that I have been given the role of Press Officer so the news up to now:

First practice done on both bikes (600 & 400). Bike's went well and Stu went well. Short break until second practice session later this evening. Weather good with light winds. Stu says now he remembers why he enjoys it so much! They are very organised with a whiteboard for the times Stu has to be where and when, but have managed to smash the front off the 99p clock by slamming the van door on it (once each!), it is still working though! Event catering consists of cheese and tomato wraps with salad cream and spam and salad cream wraps. Bargain of the day 24 bottles of water for £4.50!

They also saw Mand and Mr Cake earlier by the seaside!

From the spectators perspective....

We watched at southern 100 headquarters though we did think we watch from cross 4 ways but we were early and couldnt resist a sneaky peak around the paddock. Saw guy martin getting a rub down with a physio... Hope the multi talented mechanic *** dietician Stafford gave you the same treatment Stuart? It was a nice surprise to see you both in peel this lunch time.

The practice sessions were flipping ace, sharing the road with the likes of some road racing legends must be awesome. Thanks for the wave, you made Dave feel very special...

Update after second practice sessions:

Stu says second practice session was better but needs more speed after the first one, an extra 3 or 4MPH a lap would do! They are going to alter the gearing on the 400 with a bigger rear sprocket to pull top gear. Apart from tha,t a long day (they got back to the house gone 11pm!) with swift bike swaps between sessions so Stafford's been kept busy making sure that visors are ready, fuel available and bikes warmed up and in the right place at the right time!

Liz

Latest news:

Small leak on the 400 became an issue this morning. So sorting that out plus a new fuel filter.

Practice delayed due to an RTA on the road prior to closure. Both bikes through scrutineering and in the holding area (at 18.30pm).

20.13 update:
Practice complete, leak fixed, awaiting race times.................

Looking good through cross four ways

Liz

Stafford says:

Looks like an excellent improvement on the 400 by around 15 seconds or to put that in to context, nearly the length of the start/finish straight axed off a lap. All that with the fuel tap in the off position, another job for tomorrow.

A slightly better time on the 600 but Stu has only ever raced this once and trackday's once so really still getting to know it. Spirits are high for further improvements!

After yesterday’s superb improvement on the 400 we’re hoping for Stu to break the 3 minute barrier in his races. Firstly though a top up on fuel and food for the next 2 days.

Dietary concerns have been addressed and a full scone, jam and cream tea was had for lunch. Hospitality has excelled itself again by providing cheese and tomato wraps with salad cream and a high sugar race diet will continue for Stu with nibbles of shortbread.

The sun is shining and we nearly picked up an R1 as a hood ornament as they obviously don’t go as fast as Stu’s race van!

3 races tomorrow - Race 7B, Race A and Race 12

From last night, there were 4 races, first 3 were amazing with lap records broken etc. Michael dunlop appears to be unbeatable. The last race was stopped after 4 laps due to rain, we were standing at cross four ways again and there was no rain but the heavens opened when we walked back to the car, strange island weather

Looking forward to seeing Stuart in action today! :)

Weather is still super with a light breeze!

Race A - 400cc - Improving lap times and a good dice with some other riders! Clocks came loose but all fixed now!

Race 7B - 600cc - Rear sprocket changed for more speed. Good sub 3 minute laps until bike stalled on a slow corner: 2.57, 2.57, 3.09, which cost time. Also a good race!

Another race added to the schedule for today so one more to run on each bike..............

Liz
12-07-2012, 06:12 PM
Race 9 - 400cc - the bike started to misfire but made it to the end! New spark plugs now fitted and running well again!
Best lap time on the 400 3.03.68, best lap speed 83.2mph, average speed 81.6mph

Race 12 - 600cc - another really good race!
Best lap time on the 600 2.55.57, best lap speed 87.1mph, average speed 85.6mph

Well done Stu for keeping the bikes the right way up, well done Stafford for keeping Stu the right way up! Could be a different case later at the Castletown Presentations as I think Stu will have a few well deserved pints of Guiness!

We're back in rainy old England which is a bit of a culture shock after enjoying the sunny weather on the isle of man. We trust you both got yourselves sore heads from the presentations last night, we were sorry to have missed it but the ferry wouldn't wait even for us....

The racing was top class and proper exciting and it was brilliant to see Stuart doing his stuff, yeah we watched at cross four ways again, excellent place to spectate though not so excellent for a poor fella who came a cropper on race 7, the marshalls were quick on the scene as was the air ambulance, thats the down side to the sport we love.

Stuart, you were an inspiration to watch and it was great to see you and Stafford not once but twice by chance, we weren't stalking you. Promise!!

Roll on next year, they are not wrong when they call this meeting the "friendly races".

Hi all

Back home safe and sound and van unloaded.

Thanks for all the comments and interest, no internet over there so nice to sit and read the updates.

Was a cracking meeting and was so lucky with the weather as every race and practice was dry for me.

I didn't set the world alight but achieved what I wanted. Got quicker, qualified and finished. Considering I haven't raced for 3 years was pleased with what I did.

Good to meet up with my 'stalkers', Mand and Mr Cake, glad you enjoyed it.

If you've not been to a real road race, get yourself over to one.

Many thanks to Liz for press officer duties and huge thanks to Stafford for all the help and motivational talks he gave me.

Roll on the next one, not leaving it 3 years this time.

Cheers
Stuart

Well what a lovely week that was. Weather was fab racing was good and helping Stu although a little stressy at times with getting bikes out back to back was a hoot. Have learnt a few things, for instance if it's not lock wired it will come loose or fall of altogether. Bits came loose that I've never had come loose on a road bike! I've also leant the art of lock wiring in which I've advanced to the level of Grand Master. Hopefully my motivational chats along the lines of "you only need to find another 3mph a lap to qualify" did the trick. Thankfully Stu is home safe and well because there is not a lot of room for error as one of Stu's competitors found out when trying to pass and ending up using the path. Well if you'd like to see racing of this type in the UK get over the bridge to Abadare in a couple of weeks and see racing in the park.
