View Full Version : Are these too square?

So I feel like such a noob asking but ...

I have had these on for around 4000 miles and that is mostly city riding. A couple of track days and such.

They look like it is squaring off but is it too much for level 1 CSS and then a track day a few days later?

(Or am I worrying too much?)

the question is: can you feel the difference as the bike leans from the flat section onto the unworn edges? eventualy you'll start to feel the 'step'.
Probably not yet...

Agreed...and they look fine to me.
.....though I do tend to get "full" use out of my tyres....current PR2s have done about 7k, and I'm hoping for a couple of thousand more before I change the rear.

Look for the wear indicators as ultimate time to change. They are like a rubber bar in the tread. I change mine as soon as it starts handling oddly even when there is a lot of tread left. Different tyres and bikes react differently. I killed a pair of Sportsmarts in under 2K. They were still legal but the bike was wallowing over road imperfections and the front tyre had developed a step.

They look perfectly fine to me.

I killed my DRII rear in ~2600 miles (wear indicators reached + bald/very thin in the middle + carcass starting to poke through), but my evo seems to eat through rear tyres. I'll need another rear by 5000.

But as said, it's all about the wear indicators and handling... If all is still fine, just keep using them.

They're no where near as bad as mine. Mine is D shaped.

Look fine to me, like it's been said previously, when you feel a 'step' as you lean the bike then you know it's too square!!

Mines getting changed at the weekend, you know its definitely time when the bike stands up on its own :eyepopping:

A bit like Utopia here I want my moneys worth LOL

If the handling starts going to pot, change them. If the bike still feels fine and there's more than enough legal tread left, don't change them yet.

I got 11,000 miles out of my last set of BT023s before thinking somewhere around the Italian/French border that the bike's not handling like a Ducati anymore, and getting the satnav to take me to Ducati Nice for new tyres to better enjoy the Route Napoleon.

All sound advice.

This is my first grown up bike and as such every thing is new to me.

Thanks again UKMOC

As far as I know my bike has only ever had the tyres changed once and it's done well over 30000 miles, Monster seems to handle mostly city riding quite well

Admittedly the back one is now punctured beyond repair but they've still got an acceptable amount of tread left on them :D Bit square but still no handling problems last time I could ride it!
