That's pretty but you gotta lose the front fender extender!

I know what you mean, but there,s no way I,m going to grit blast the front end of my clean motor.

Bike looks very tidy, but man that front mudguard looks awful.

Well its certainly not a nail now.
That looks like a really tidy job, and is typical of the standard that I've come to expect of your bikes.
Pod filters, by the looks of it.
Did you paint the little plastic doodads...I've always thought that was i missed opportunity to put colour where formerly there was just greyness.
And I'm just about with you on the extenda....I bought one myself about a year ago, though its still on the shelf for now, but it will go on once the new paint is done.......I think.
Am I right in thinking that white was never a std colour for the headlamp shell ? The white adds a certain "difference" while still looking "factory", which is neat.
Not so sure about the mirrors. They're maybe a little too old-school for me, though I've seen a lot worse.....but personally I'd prefer bar-enders.
I do have one point of.....er.....constructive criticism though. And I almost hate to mention it, in case you agree once I've drawn your attention to it, and then forever find it annoying, but......
I think that the Ducati graphic on the tank would look better if it was parallel to the one on the clutch cover........:look:
Then again, I'm only looking at one photo, and of just one side of the bike.
But, all in all, that's an absolutely top and tasteful job.
I wouldn't mind betting you've polished the bar clamp too.
And the cans really suit it.
And the hoop disappears nicely in silver, which makes the red frame "pop" even more.
Nice.

That certainly is a very tidy machine, a great piece of work. The small details make all the difference. Do you have any photos of it as an old nail ? are you putting it up for sale or is this a personal build ? I'm not looking to buy, just interested to know.

Thanks for your remarks Cactus, I agree, it's the detail work that makes quite a difference. Trouble is it can carry you away if it gets out of hand. I once inserted a ruby into the socket head of an Allen screw, it was on a Mulistrada after all. I must try and find a photo of this monster as it was when I bought it. I won't be selling this one for a while, but then I said that about the previous eleven Dukes I restored.

That is a cracking rebuild, I have total admiration for anyone that has the talent to turn nails, that will probably end up being broken, into great bikes that will be cherished for years, hope you do some more. Must say tho that fender extender brings me out in hives :)

I'll keep my eye out for it on the rare occaisions I'm over in Derby ;)

Bit tricky right now, I have a Tiger cub nearing completion, and another one in boxes not started yet, plus an M600 engine needing a strip down just to tidy it up, and my wife keeps asking me when I,m going to clean the windows.

Not really, she thinks that at 73 years of age I should know better. I know I will grow up one day, I just need more time.

She can't see the beauty of the bikes through the dirty windows! :)
Grow up??????? utter rubbish.. who says you have to , I certainly do not intend to!

Very nice that, well done.
I also have one of those fender extenders and intend to fit it for the same reason that
you have as I believe the good outweighs the bad.

Can I ask you where you had the seat recovered?

Reminded me of my s4. Well done sir. I like it too. I dont like fender extenders but have one on my 1100s but it had already started chipping stones. Mind you the new monster ones are a lot shorter. I respect you for your work.

i want them frame plugs! they home made or bought?

Dookbob
30-06-2012, 11:01 PM
I made the frame plugs, and the seat was re covered by Lee of Viking Vinyl in Ash, Kent, after reading a recommendation by a member on this forum. £75. Plus postage both ways, I,m really pleased with that seat job.

I would really like to get into learning to polish ... I am a magpie and tactile person.
I love bringing up paint , and can polish boots and shoes to military standard mirror finish :) I get great satisfaction from stuff like that.
Well done :)

Nottsbiker
02-07-2012, 01:26 PM
The only problem with polished parts on bikes is that they need constant maintenance (unless lacquered) and keep getting stolen by magpies ;)

Dookbob
02-07-2012, 08:58 PM
Quite right, but I lacquer all the shiny bits anyway, every visible bolt and nut on the bike is lacquered, and some of the not so visible ones too. Only thing I don't lacquer is the backs of the mirrors, it,s easier to get the flies off the bare chrome.

You should see Taz when he sits on the sofa next to you and then looks at you out of the corner of his eye - proper freaks out my Mum. Bella our smaller bitch on the other hand can only manage a cute face and is not even 0.00000% scary.

I was waiting for someone to tell me yup I need a can of Mr sheene!

I liked polished cases but in my environment not practical.
One day in the future.
