What model Monster have you got and how many miles has it done, what's the known record for the highest ?
I just met one of the guys from Ducati Up North who was visiting a friend of ours. His Monster 800 has done 88,000 miles !

My 1100s has done 1900 :)

My S2R 800 (06) has done 24000 miles and growing quite rapidly.
By the end of this year it will have 27000. Didn't experience any problems so far, but it's approaching its middle age I guess. Was thinking how much more I can put on it without rebuilding the engine...

My 99 600 has done about 22,000 I had 6hr 30 on it today.
I did near 300 miles in gusts and torrential rain today :) and was happy even though my ruddy Oxford heated grips control broke :( it will light up to 30 % and warm to that but no further .. Cross as they are not cheap.
Still got to fix fuel sensor :(

My MZ ETZ must have been well bad .... I brought it for a hack to work.
It did not even get 50miles before it died a death :(
I brought it as bomb proof I think this one had been nuked it was bad!!!
I sent it back to the seller by AA ....who took I think 6 hours first sent the wrong "van" then had to get a recovery truck .... before they decided it was dead as a ...
The owner got it started and said come back and it will be fine but I said if that can't get me 50 miles home no way will it get me to work every day!!

Is this really true? How come?

I mean I can definitely say that my bike's better for being 'used well' on a regular basis... Is it all to do with keeping all the moving parts moving/lubricated by use, and not allowing the contacts time to lose contact?

this bothers me :dizzy: as I'm about to collect a 2005 S4r with only 2k miles on the clock, hope it doesn't fall into the "hissy throwing" category of bikes

Most bikes don't enjoy being unused.
I'd say that the only extra factor with a Ducati is the belts sitting in the same position for ages.
But you'd change those anyway.

You'll be OK, such comments are applicable when not maintained correctly.

Mine sat for 8 months, I was wanting it to crank to prime the oil circuit but it fired instantly on the first compression stroke.

My 94 900 has about 110 thousand on it. By the time it was round the clock the gearbox in particular was getting a bit noisy so treated it to a Baines Racing engine rebuild. Just back on the road and after some fine tuning of the Flatslides by Dynotech in Glasgow, it is back to its old fantastic self!
Unfortunately the three year old tyres don't seem to offer much grip - they are probably so hard they will never wear out!
