Looks like my issues are actually from a bodged rear wheel replacement. went over the bike with a fine tooth comb today and found that the cush drive is not seated correctly and has caused my sprocket carrier bolts and nuts to be worn against the swing arm...

Now can i buy just the bolts and nuts or do i need to replace the whole carrier assembly? pics to follow tomorrow, unfortunately I had the wheels done last year and stupiud me didnt notice the issue till almost a year later so i cant do anything about it with the non ducati mechanics that bodged it....

Is the gap too big? I think I'll order new cush drive bushes from the dealers regardless - as far as I know they are the originals and 17yrs old now..

There is also the damage to swingarm to consider, and well as potential damage to chain and sprockets from running out of alignment. Is it the sprocket carrier that is at fault or the cush rubbers not installed in far enough?

Actually I've just had another thought... was the conical rear wheel spacer properly installed? If not that could be the real issue here - http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=44022

Could this be a case of the conical spacer being left out....? (various previous threads on here)
Is the swingarm damaged...?
Not too sure that the cush drive is at fault, but worth changing the rubbers after 17yrs anyway....particularly if the conical spacer has been omitted.

You know what... it might even have been the

comical spacer.. comical spacer... comical spacer..... comical spacer

Lunch time tinkering has shown that the comical spacer has indeed been omitted. I've ordered a sprocket carrier anyway as I dont like the look of the chamfered bolts and nuts.

I know the washer was in there when I took it to the mechanics cos i'd originally put it in backwards causing it to lock the rear wheel up entirely.

There is some light scoring on the inside edge of the swing arm but its only just through the paint, the corner of the chain adjuster is where the brunt of the damage has been caused. chain etc all look fine.

Thanks guys...

The pins that those nuts are attached to come out on the 900 from the rear so you could have replaced just the pins if the 600 uses the same system.

Pretty sure all non-SSS Monster use the same carrier.

As far as I can see from your pic the damage is pretty much limited to just the nuts.
I'd be inclined to just replace those, and see if you can get a refund on the sprocket carrier.

Being one of the unluckiest monster owners I took my bike for new tyres when I first got him and the muppets left out the conical spacer !!
Why do people do it??
It's big enough !!!!

A had a lock up on a dual carriageway thanks to that.
And chewed swing arm!!!

Mate,

I have a couple of M600 swingarms, one normal silver and the other powdercoated black, if you want a replacement you can have one of mine for postage.

One is 1999 and the other is about 1995.

If those would fit my 2000 m750 I'd be very interested in buying the powder coated black one?

Why.. it's simple - because they are useless w@nkers

It's also the reason you should only allow competent people to work on your bike. I always take off and re-fit my own wheels because I don't trust tyre fitting bays to do it properly. Wheels are a safety critical part of the bike, and a mistake like this could easily cause a fatal accident.
