to change the timing belts ?

According to my haynes manual I have to drop the engine out to replace the belts on my 2001 monster. Is this true.....?

Any experiences please let me know.

Well I got the belts , all ready to give it a bash and reading through the manual it reads (to me anyway!) that post 1998 bikes should have the engine dropped when changing the belts. I must have another look at it tomorrow.

Absolutely not should only take you 15 to 20 minutes dropping the engine will take about 2 hours if you haven't done it before and all the bolts come out.

Well thats a relief anyway cheers , why does it say it. I'm just starting to do my own maintenance on it so was reliant on the manual for guidance. Am off again saturday so will be looking at it then. Cheers for responses.
