I,m restoring a 2001 M600 but Replacing the engine with one I have had for a few years. I thought the spare one was round about a 2001 also, but it apears not to be. The neutral switch on my original (2001) engine is 10mm whereas the same switch on my spare engine is 8mm. Does anyone know how to date my spare engine from the engine number or from some other relavant detail.

Email Ducati, they should be able to tell you the build date from the engine number. They can certainly do so from frame number.

ZDM 904A2C XXXXXX means 904 = 904cc A = air-cooled, 2 = 2 valve, C = carburated

From one of my engines, I don't think engines were ever date coded but as has already been said a mail to the factory will work
