I'm in the Inters.

New policy for RAPID TRAINING is that Novice and Inters groups should be road bikes only.
A very popular trend for bike trackdays over the last couple of years, and Rapid are more relaxed than the other trackday companies too.

Well, I'd say that you'd have me on the outbreaking, but the EVO does come with ABS so at least I'll have no fear in slamming them on. :)
Anyway, remember, it's not how FAST you go. It's how GOOD you look for the trackside camera man !

yeah, just found that but waiting for Steve to confirm, might try novice for that one since I've never done Snet before. Will start a new thread as soon as Steve gets back to me.

No Inters left so novice it is... as long as I can get a couple of slow sessions in to learn it before Del-Boy punts me into the fast group... EEK!

A very popular trend for bike trackdays over the last couple of years, and Rapid are more relaxed than the other trackday companies too.!

I'm interested but usually do track days on my 853 track bike. Ive been to the website but can't find any details on this road bikes policy for inters / Novice groups.

Where is this stated or have you seen people turned away or bumped up into the advanced groups?

Cheers

Give them a call and ask them is the best bet.

Called them and no go. Novice and advanced places only but they won't let me on-track with my track bike. I'm not sure how my road bike with all the lights, indicators etc taken off is any different to my track bike but hey, rules are rules. Was thinking about using my road bike but then again, what's the whole point of my track bike then?

Shame.

I can understand it as it is intended to filter out the racers from the groups but what's the difference between my road 996 with the track bodywork and indicators etc taken off and my completely track based 853. If anything, the 853 is safer as I am less worried about dropping it and concentrating on my riding.

I do think there should be clarification on the website as it mentions nothing about road based bikes on there. Not sour grapes as I was toying with the idea of using my road bike but I can't see the point of having a track bike and not using it.

With regards to the 998 with track fairings, I would of thought that would be ok? I would imagine as long as it has a tax disc visible, it should be fine?

Yes a fully sorted track bike in inters is fine as people should all know what they are doing.
The idiots at Lydden booked in the novice as the fast group was fully booked, upset a few people for a couple of sessions before one was moved and one crashed at devils elbow.

Would love to do this however am put by two things

1: Am not spending another Monday huddled under a gazebo to keep dry

2: Absolutely hate the restriction of road bikes only, even though mine would be just that, its a very very very STUPID idea, shame on Rapid Training

marchesini

1: Am not spending another Monday huddled under a gazebo to keep dry

But you do it so well. In fact, we all should be pretty good at it now - we had enough practice at it. We are also not bad on optimism either .... " I think it's definitely getting brighter.... I think. Yes, the skies are now mid-grey instead of black."

Absolutely hate the restriction of road bikes only, even though mine would be just that, its a very very very STUPID idea, shame on Rapid Training

Completely agree. I think with the lack of attendees at yesterdays sessions, I would think they would be putting incentives out to attract more people - not giving them a reason not to do it. Novices yes. Intermediate sessions - can't understand the logic at all. Anyway, their loss is Lydden Hill's gain.

J.P
10-07-2012, 03:59 PM
Rapid Training's trackday's have always been an extremely high percentage of road bike users anyway and so this is just locking that in. I think it's a fine idea and you only need look at the sucess of the Ride Magazine's road bike days to see there is demand out there.
Of course, current market conditions don't guarantee attnedance, but that's the risk you take.

pegboy
10-07-2012, 04:27 PM
so if I ride to the track with my track fairings, remove No. Plate and mirrors, etc will they still let me ride, surely they can not refuse my bike for that can they, this is if the track fairings turn up in time

J.P
10-07-2012, 04:29 PM
why bother taking your fairing's at all then if all you're going to do is remove them ?

pegboy
10-07-2012, 11:20 PM
I will remove the originals red one and replace with track fairing ride up as is the remove the mirrors number plate etc therefore if I do drop it hopefully it's just fairing damage and I can change them to prestige red ones again

marchesini
10-07-2012, 11:44 PM
so if I ride to the track with my track fairings, remove No. Plate and mirrors, etc will they still let me ride, surely they can not refuse my bike for that can they, this is if the track fairings turn up in time

I spoke to them as I was thinking of booking. I only knew of this 'policy' because of info from this site.

To be honest, I don't think it states anywhere on the site that bikes have to be road legal. Admittedly, it was a cursory 'man-look' but couldn't see anything on there. Maybe there is some small print on the booking form?

However, I would assume if you turned up with track fairings and the bike all track ready, then all you would need to do would be to show a valid tax disc. That would be enough to prove it was road legal as you would not be able to tax the bike without an MOT or insurance. Or simply plead ignorance as it says nothing about it on the website.

pegboy
11-07-2012, 09:15 AM
Actually although i say track fairings they do have the lights cut outs etc so i assume they are not full race fairings but replica race ones that are usable for the road, my purpose for these is for the track

Anyway I don't think they are going to arrive in time now as delivery is from the 12th till the 20th, thats not good, so i will ride the bike as it is, its a shame as i have a tank re-sprayed etc for the new fairings. Will just have to use them on the next track day at Silverstone on August 30th:biggrin::biggrin:

Glad to hear your home and you did not need pins.
You took quite a bashing but glad your lid did its job and protected your head from a nasty impact (lid had a large dent and crack in the shell)
Heal fast mate and see you soon.

Hi Justin, damn really feel for you, didn't think it was that much damage to you. Hope you feel better soon. I have you on camera not sure you want to see it but Funcatronic had my camera, you pass the slow coach (Funcatronic:biggrin:) few corners late he passes you after your off while you are on the ground.

J.P

Decided not to pin the elbow, review in a week, just in a sling to keep it mobile.
Broke a metacarpal in the hind. Effects of concussion making me feel pretty sick today.

That explains your poor spelling then!

Yeah, you were on a bit of a mission when you passed me. I've written to MSV and requested Williams be renamed J.P's.

It's a Chilli Technology ActionCam2, cheap as chips and also does 720p, only complaint is the mic only picks up wind noise when strapped to a bike.

I've ordered one so hopefully it will be here for Saturday. Apparently, people in the know use a bit of sponge to act as a wind buffer for the mic.

Initial assesement of damage to the bike:

New Items Needed :
Twistgrip
Bar end plug
RH lever
Engine mounting bolt & crasg bungs
Brake pedal

Items scratched but no need for replacement:
RH footrest-brake mount*
Lower silencer*
RH pillion footrest mount*
RH pillion footrest*
Exhaust heat shield*
Exhaust valve guard*

Plus:
Where the frame bung got caught on the track kerb on the way out it probably need frame removed to effect a proper repair to the frame lug.
And the forks seem to have twisted in the yokes.

scrapps
26-07-2012, 01:51 PM
Not to bad other than getting the frame removed and repaired.
The bungs did protect tank and engine etc but its a shame they hit the kerb.

J.P
26-07-2012, 01:58 PM
Frame lug all bent , which means a full strip down to make a good repair.

Try the Speedymoto bungs, the threaded rod that replaces the engine bolt is 185000 psi Chromoly Steel and the stand-offs the bungs fit to are also high strength steel where the Evotechs are Aluminium. The Speedymotos might be less likely to distort and damage the frame.

sLOB, Some guys near to Alec at Ducati Proteam did the lug repair and another guy for paint.
