Shuffy and I were having a chat about organising a trip over to Ireland to watch some racing.

The Skerries is on 6th and 7th of July this year (6th is practice). Thats a Friday and Saturday.

Just a finger in the air to see if theres any interest really.

If it were to happen theres the option of flying and doing a short weekend, or riding. I'm probably doing a trip home regardless, via Holyhead for a jolly through Wales en-route, so theres a couple of options for who's available/when/for how long.

Nothing remotely certain, just an idea we had, could happen next year instead potentially, theres probably loads of overlaps with things already arranged this year.

What a tempting thing to add to my biking list of things to do, but unfortunately not for 2012. :(

I've been looking to go see some Irish road racing for some time now.
Some of the best racing on the planet, I reckon.
Could well be very interested.... though subject to available finance nearer the time.
Definitely not via plane though.
Judging by previous years, there seem to be races on most weekends, so I'd be tempted to pack a tent and stay over 'til the next week's races too.
This year or next...either would suit me fine.

Well I live in North Wales, close to the A55 to Holyhead, so gimme a shout if you want a guide around North Wales!

I shall give the Skerries a thought as well!

Well done Bex for starting this thread (wait for me and you'll wait forever!).

Have been out a few times to see it, and like all pure road racing it is a awesome event, anything that can make the Isle of Man look safe just has to be seen to be believed. Skerries is a great one to do as it's just outside Dublin, so getting there is relatively easy and it has the bonus of finishing on Saturday afternoon leaving the rest of the weekend to explore or spend a drunken weekend in Dublin with your nearest and dearest. As my other half's family are from Dublin, I've combined it with a home visit, flown out and hired a car from the airport, which is fine if time is short and you don't want to bring pillions etc. I've ridden over too although the roads round that area aren't great, so you might want to plan something a little further afield. The only note of caution I'd add is it is Ireland and the chances of it tipping down are fairly high, and bear in mind you're out in the sticks there isn't much shelter, apart from the Cricket Club which doubles as the race paddock bar (strangely popular!). So there it is, if you've always fancied it give it a go!

Here are a few snaps from a few years back (please note unseasonal sunshine!). And yes you're that close to the bikes, they were shot with a very basic camera with no zoom lens. It can make spectating quite 'exciting'.

Ireland's on my short list of adventure destinations, as per my post on J.P's thread: http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=43136&page=3.

I'd be up for a bike trip to the Emerald Isle. Following WDW-2012, I'll probably have the bug to go somewhere else pretty soon after returning. Sounds a great idea, count me in.

i make the skerries trip the odd year. my mate's family are from skerries so there's always digs available and some memorable parties. I hope to persuade him to make it a trip this year also.
as far as road racing goes, skerries, imo, is very close-up and personal and the sterile 'safe distance' for spectators is interperted slightly looser than some other road races in NI, def recommended as a road racing event to see. it's a short and easy run on this side of the ferry, nice run through N Wales to Hollyhead too which i done on the way from London many times.

Having been catching up with with Skerries and other road race telly offerings would absolutely love to go, but after the TT and WDW it's all getting a little bit busy in the middle of the year.
Now next year, stick me on the list.
