If the M750 is the non hoop type then yes. No idea if the spring rate would be correct though.

Surely an ST4 doesn't have the hooped suspension whereas an M750 does? Doesn't the S4 have the ST4 type rear suspension?

Having said that I don't know what the shock differences are with regards to length & stroke etc?

Some of the later 750ie's used the S4 style (pushrod) suspension set up

Earlier carbed 750's had the one with hoop linkage on swingarm

mine is hooped ....but surely if the length is similar it should work , might be a bit stiffer on the spring rate but its adjustable as well.

Dunno if its any help, but I was told by Nitron when I bought my new shock that the std spring on a yr2000 M750 is 425lb per inch.
Also, std spring free length is 185mm with std preload being 20mm, ie fitted length is 165mm.
Possibly you could swap springs and use your original one on the new shock though.
I still have the original shock and I could easily check measurements for you, if that's any help too.
Mine is the hoop type setup.

The original shock is mint and only did about 4000m. I only changed it so I could get remote preload adjustment for quick-change when carrying a pillion.
I was planning to keep it, but I could possibly be persuaded to sell it just now as I'm skint and need to raise some cash for an ally tank for my Dominator.

Has the S4 shock got a gas reservoir hanging off the side?

If so you may have serious clearance issues

Remote (hosed up) reservoir type like an Ohlins unit may be less of a problem
