Or, in the interest of regional unity, you could replace both the orange in the south and the whole of the north, with red....??

Copyright of the Ducati shield springs to mind, otherwise I like 4 or 5 best.

Sadly, you can't use them unless you want to go to court in Italy, happy discuss the very strict trademark rules laid down by the DOC/factory if you want.
We (myself, the DOC liason and Ducati's legal dept.) actually had a very long discussion last year about our right to use the UKMOC logo you see at the top of the page, fortunately we still can.

I'd also avoid anything referencing the red hand of ulster and flags etc.... not really a road you want to go down in my opinion.

The island silhouette looked good. Maybe come up with something not using the copyright stuff and could be good.

i like no 4 how about replacing the sheild with the island still keeping the stripe across it also with UKMOC??

I agree with that 100% - and on that basis #5 would get my vote.......

Sorry, should have said in my original post anything deemed 'political' is out of bounds according to the DOC charter, I'm afraid I only had time to scan the post very briefly ths morning

Ricky,

Unless you can come up with an idea that avoids legal issues I would scrap the idea TBH

Sorry... but Slob spells it out quite clearly above

For accuracy and balance....
The red hand is pre christian and probably celtic in origin. The o'neill clan adopted it most prominently but almost every high class clan of the time (1500's) used it on their arms.
It is infact one of the few emblems that was used by both 'sides' before during and after the 'troubles' which makes it a good pick by Ricky.

Just text in a 'gaelic' kinda script ollphéist álainn well except the newer ones with the chunky frames which is just my opinion

Absolutely true, but today is so commonly associated with loyalist paramilitaries, like the UDA who use it as part of their emblem, that its not a great idea, since its open to various interpretations.

Political and all that.

Would this be a breach of copyright?

I would imagine a company/logo owner could sue you for anything if..

A/ they find out about it

B/ can be arsed to take it to court

C/ Able to finance the litigation, barristers, lawyers fees etc..

I suspect that in practice a one off is acceptable but duplication would become an issue.

Purely hypothetical example:
If you paint a neon yellow #46 on your bike it's homage to your hero (Yes Kato... I know) and no one could be bothered to chase you about it but the minute you produce a run of #46 stickers and sell them (even a small not for profit batch) some of the World's hottest IP lawyers will hunt you down and and feast on your bones.

Yes people get very upset about logos and such like most companys have a bible if they are big stipulating everything it can be used for and can't proportions and all sorts and as Slog rightly states will kick off !! Usually a warning letter fro
a legal department is enough to stop people in their tracks.
Mostly it's harmless or fan stuff...

Patches are funny things .. It's like if you make a club patch using rockers top and bottom .. Not a good plan!!
Someone set up a bike company and his logo hadva skull and rockers top and bottom , let's just say he got asked to change it ...
