After getting rid of my S4 earlier this year, i was looking round at another Monsters,i thought it was time to try a new one.
I had already owned a 600 Dark, it was my first one, so i ended up looking at new bikes, after having a test ride on the 796 at MOB day in Belgium, i came back and booked a test ride on one at Moto Rapido.
As I took off down the A272 towards loomies cafe, i realised how much fun these lighter bikes are, i had a great test ride and ordered one a couple of days later.
Andrew the sales guy at MR was more than helpful and i ordered a body kit for it at the same time.

I have fitted a tail tidy now and am awaiting delivery of a new exhaust, only done 300 miles so am hoping to get the first service out the way and use the throttle a little bit more.

Stuff that... come over and get it ACF50'd (clicky (http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=42549)) - Eleanor had hers done last year and there's barely any corrosion on it at all despite having about 15k on the clock.

Cool, what's it like compared to the S4? Still got the R1?

its alot lighter than the S4, handles easier as you dont have to heave it out of corners, it does fly round corners and it gives alot of confidence on the angle. its alot of fun, but hasnt got the grunt, but weighing alot less and only 13hp down i think.
It will be more interesting when its run in, and the new exhaust is fitted, as the demo i took out had me grinning :woot:

Yes, the R1 is still in the garage :eyepopping:

Good to have you back in the fold and she is very nice

I have a can of AC50 in the garage - as the bike is so clean you should be able to apply yourself very easily - there are lots of threads on it from last year :eyepopping::eyepopping::eyepopping:

PS much prefer following you on the monnie than the R1 (or should I say much easier at the moment lets wait until its run in thought :gromit:)

The original MHR had had the colours split horizontally so I don't think it matters

Martin should sell the R1 and get on of these to go with the monster - It's a DIY modified Sport Classic

No point having a lightweight bike if you're not a lightweight yourself, that's why I don't bother!

A lightweight motorcycle will handle more responsively regardless of the riders weight, uksurfers post is testement to that.

I realise how it works Stu, it's just the effect is not quite the same when you are over 100kgs! Loosing weight from the wheels and unsprung weight have the best effect then.

Just managed to do about 150 miles today so have gone over my 625 miles, so i will be booking in for my 'first' service shortly.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d125/Uksurfer/Monster%20796/IMG_0031.jpg

Fitted a tail tidy from Evotech, and have an exhaust system waiting to be fitted from SC-Racing which is a 2-1

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d125/Uksurfer/Monster%20796/IMG_0034.jpg

After i had clocked my miles, i opened up to another 1000 rpm which makes it a bit more fun, really enjoying the ride of the bike, just find the rear shock a little bit hard still, so might need a slight tweak.

I am so glad now that i have moved to a new style - Enjoying it :ukm:

From a position of experience, I'd definitely have a bike remapped to get the best out of the engine, even if I wasn't fitting a new exhaust, but especially if I was and wanted to stop those darn lambda sensors. :)

Quite a costly option too, power commander and rolling road approx £500.... :worried:

you don't need the power commander anymore, just direct remapping to the ECU, but you're right, still about £500

If you haven't changed the airbox it should be ok, you may need to do a few miles for it to settle down so your ECU can store some new offsets for the mixture.

Good luck!

Nice one , had mine 18 months now , done 7500 miles, such a good bike, yes on straights / motorways bigger engines will out grunt, but up in the hills it's all you need. I've got clip-ons fitted and the bike now turns/drops in even quicker, forces you to grip with the Knees more which is a good thing. Think about getting a Fenda Extenda, easy to fit and really helps protect the front of engine.

Mods so far:

DP tail tidy
Ti Termi's + filter & ECU
14 T front sprocket
DP carbon belly pan
Fenda Extenda
Woodcraft Monster adaptor plate and clip-on's
Rizoma bar ends
Rizoma reverse retro mirror ( left side only, France )
Puig double bubble ( with #58 sticker )
Radiator protector grill ( home made )

think thats it, would love to get rear-sets ( Rizoma ) and some funky body panels, liking the red/ green ones on yours, also lookindg at Radical Ducati body kit.

Oh, just fitted Road Angels, wore the Rosso II's out after 2500 miles, think a sports touring tyre might suite long ride-outs more.

Have fun.

I sent some questions to SC-Project:

I may be interested to buy a SC-Project Full system 2-1 with Oval silencer (Code D04-C02O) for my Ducati M1100S Monster but I have some questions:

1. If I fit this type of exhaust, do I need to change the fuel parameters on the ecu?
2. I see you sell a product called MEMJET power unit for Monster (Code D04-MJ): is this unit designed to adjust the fuel parameters of the ecu? Does it require set-up on a dynamometer or any specialist tools to install?
3. The M1100S has a flap valve in the standard exhaust – does the SC Project exhaust include parts to remove this valve control unit? I know that if it is disconnected it will result in a ERROR message.

Answers were:
Hello, you have to install the memjet, you have to remove the valve, you don’t have to reove the valve, in this mode the error message don’t show.
The memjet is ready and easy to install

So there you have it...

Rick if you looked at the Pic's of UKSurfers bike closely enough, you'll see that under the clutch cover is the Lamba sensor. THis I believe is provided with the exhaust. You need to check your own bike to see if this sensor is fitted and of its whereabouts. Have you checked it for yourself? The 796 exhaust could be different to your M1100s? :dizzy:

Rally
06-12-2011, 02:47 PM
The pipe comes wth places for the two lamba sensors for the 1100s, along with no place for the valve. You have to remove the valve and the cable that goes to operate it. You can fit a bracket to the valve motor to eliminate the orange light and error code if you like / prefer.

As to set up, when I enquired I was told it is designed to go straight on with no need for mods, the same as on my QD Maxcone system.

Like you, I couldn't decide which to go for myself.

I like both of the 2-1 systems a lot.
The maxcone is lovely and simple, and may just get my vote on looks (though I'm not sure).
The hi-level system is also a thing of simple beauty. I wonder also whether its extra length might favour low torque as opposed to high revs power, and for that reason I think it just gets my vote.
Both look way, way better than the std system, which looks almost comic/mickey-mouse in comparison.
To my eye, the dark can looks great against the green of the Hailwood livery.

1/ yes, before I ran Termignoni pipes + DP ECU + open air intake and had my bike tested, it ran lean (as do all DP ECU's) still with the butterfly valve in the exhaust. Now the exhaust is fully open, so it will run even more lean ==> my advice: get it set up properly (mine is being done this week, DP ECU will be flashed and completely remapped over the whole RPM range)
2/ No idea about this memjet thing, I don't have it.
3/ No, the SC project system does not include stuuf to eliminate the exhaust valve and you will get an engine warning light. I solved this with completely removing the servo motor and installed a DUC.EE ==> problems solved

Best regards,
Jan

After coming away from the Weekender without even a sniff of a prize, i thought i'd better make a few changes, so i have stripped a few bits of and got some of Staffords carbon....

Bikes looking like this now, waiting for a few bits, amazing how dirty these bikes get underneath!

Hey Martin, was that you on the Lymington to New Milton road today? I was with Nicky in the car (metallic blue Honda Accord) - saw you coming up behind just before Everton and pulled over to let you pass?

White helmet with red stripe... reckon it was you or your twin!

Pipes sounded pretty good!

Hi Jerry, yes that was me getting a bit of a move on probably, I love that bit of road.....
Ended up at mudeford and then cut across Hurn, up Matchams lane, and a sneaky ice cream at Burley on the way home.
Thanks for pulling over

Sorry but I'm afraid no matter what one does with the standard peg brackets, they still look hideous!!

You should see the nut that connects the handlebars to the seat....
