It is indeed a cool vid, nice wee bike. I am liking the idea of a stripped back single at the moment...

Thats it its decided I'm going to build a cafe racer for my next project. Always been a fan of the SR500 which is what I think that bike is. I used to get a lift on the back of one as a student from a mate to the station back in 1978 and love the 500 single. An XT500 floats my boat but expensive to now buy as restorers dream. So as I never got the SS600 to chop Im on the lookout for a big single . There is the option of say a Yamaha 650 twin but then it needs a twin exhaust or complicated routing.

Thanks for inspiring me again. Off to search the ebay.:mand::mand:

Good start project but too pricey for me. These bikes certainly hold value

Ah big citys at night. I love riding about 2am onwards till about 5am in London. Roads are empty, in many parts of city deserted and you are free.

I remember last year I had 2 night shifts a week finishing at 4am during the summer, 20mile commute from sw to east london - most fun I've ever had on a bike.
Feel like going for a ride now!

Oddly I know someone who has a yam twin sitting in his garden shed and is thinking of selling it on

Albie, Being a 2 stroke fan I would have thought this was more your bag?

Or even something based on a classic 2 stroke mx/enduro single

The build of that bike was covered in the Discovery series "Cafe Racer" along with some other great bikes including a Rickman framed Triumph. Season two is not far off.

Lossa Engineering have their own gauge backing cards made, they sell them for a couple of the Honda CB bikes that are commonly "cafed" these days.

Excuse my ignorance, but what year is the Yamaha? I am sure there is a Ducati equivalent, what would it be?

The video is awesome, even my better half loved it!

I think a four stroker would fit the bill more. As much as it seems Im reliving my youth it has also been said when I had the Fsie I fell for the SR500 and the then new Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans.

Now thats something to think about.
Hardly any sr500 bikes for sale although there is a huge american fan base. The sr400 may be underpowered. The possibilities are endless but there are a few rules that I would want to follow.

Simplistic look
No 4 cylinder
No fancy electronics other than speedo maybe
4 stroke engine with a kickstart
Wire wheels or alloys ok.
Suspension modern and brakes

I just watched the sr 500 slip away on ebay.I was lucky enough to have the support of Caroline to say go for it but I limited my bidding to what I thought the amount needed to spen restoring and missed out by £20. It annoying but thats ebay for you. It was pretty much all there other than exhaust and seat was shot s well as base. Engine was just in the frame so maybe it wasn't a runner but I will never know.

I have now got my heart set on a cafe racer/flat tracker build so looking for a good engined bike. Preferably 500 single or 650 twin.

My thoughts have also been looking at the 600ss in the garage but don't think I have the heart to start ripping it apart. Panels are all good and would also want a 900 if it was a duke or at least a 750.

Onwards and upwards.

I have a plan in place and I wouldn't have the pleasure of doing it myself. Nice bike and a good price too. I sure think you will sell it easy.
