Having ridden the new Evo 1100 on the MCN test it made me realise how more civilised a new Monster is compared the S4Rs I already had. Loving the colour scheme of mine so much, the search was on for an 'S' version with Ohlins forks and a red frame. After much searching I found one.
Day 1. Collection from Essex.
http://i786.photobucket.com/albums/yy142/UKMOC-Rally/Ducati%20Monster%201100s/M1100Swhenbought.jpg

After 3 days in red, I was kindly offered a swop to Pearl white by a certain 'Mr Carbon'. The foundation of the 'Changing of the Colours Club begins!'
http://i786.photobucket.com/albums/yy142/UKMOC-Rally/Ducati%20Monster%201100s/M1100SRHS.jpg

The two side by side.
http://i786.photobucket.com/albums/yy142/UKMOC-Rally/Ducati%20Monster%201100s/M1100SS4Rs.jpg

The next stage was to strip it down and get some satin black powder coating done. Also a good opportunity to give it a good clean.
http://i786.photobucket.com/albums/yy142/UKMOC-Rally/Ducati%20Monster%201100s/StrippedBare.jpg

Black it is, plus loose the fairing and add some carbon bits.

On goes the new QD Maxcone pipe, carbon hugger, new clutch flywheel and cover.

I do prefer the front like it is although it does blow a bit more at speed. It's surprising how much that small screen keeps off.

White looks best above, though it looks quite silvery. Dunno about white-white. Still, works on the S4Rs so no reason why not.

Looks smart even if you did nick my exhaust, that I ,ahem, nicked off some a bloke in Belgium :running:

Whats sticking out from under the seat or am I seeing things? Reckon you should get tank strip and tail nib in red, maybe, maybe a bit OTT.

I quite fancy a new paint job, but I cant quite put my finger on what it should be.

Now Alun to keep your twin twins theme you've got to go for white wheels...:thumbsup:I've always thought that colour combo looked best...:hail:

Rac3r; Thanks for the images, thats a big help. I think the last one is best although I agree with Bex, it looks a bit silvery?
Bex; The bit hanging down under the seat is the tax disc as I can't find anywhere else to puit it as yet, plus a lanbar sensor cable. As to the pipe, we all saw it together love and loved it!
Buzzbomb; White seems to be winning and is my favourite so far. Yes, I do like my polish as you do. :D

It's got to be white, that style of wheel looks really nice in white, I've even thought of having the wheels of the SF done white as the old S4R alway's looked nice in black with white wheels, the dull gold colour isn't my favorite.

As for polishing I have to keep it nice don't I......;);)

Hi Alun,

From the 3 colours you've had photoshop adjusted I'd say white wheels. It keeps things inline with your collection. I would suggest 'powder coating' them though. After looking at Buzzbombs Hyper (red Wheels) the colour looks very rich, especially when polished.

The M1100S are very addictive. The little screen does make a difference to buffeting, so a good idea with the carbon to cover the electrics and a maybe a similar screen to Buzz's SF, if it would fit?

Looks good so far, will we see it Belgium?

Wheels have to be black. The nasty gold standard colour does not match the forks so they have to go! I intend to black mine up over the winter.
What is that pipe you have fitted? Is it 2-2 or 2-1 (can't tell from the original pic).

Looks good.

Ricky,
It is a 2 into 1 system by QD of Italy. It is called a Maxcone. As to the wheels, White is favourite as soon as the tyres are toasted. Black is okay but hides the wheels IMHO.

These bikes are very individual as we all have different tastes (Which is good), but its always nice when others like what you have done. I bought the S4RS because I loved the colour scheme (and power of course!) and this one is now very close.

Cosmetics, colour and carbon now done, chassis tuned, tyres changed to my choice, brakes on order and then the search for more power begins! :D

I think we all know why I get pulled in so much! Also I think i've tried and fallen in love with one of those already. The thing is, It's easy to buy power or speed, but much more satisfying to make it yourself through engineering advances or design. it's just a case of where to find it from. Hi, sorry to bring up an old topic.

Is the bike mapped or flashed in any wway?

Im considering the same exhaust , but unsure .

Rally
04-12-2011, 04:30 PM
The exhaust is designed to go straight onto the bike with a bracket to fit onto the valve motor to fool the ECU into thinking it is still functioning correctly. This keeps the light out. The fueling corrects itself enough to run without further mods and it gives it an extra 6 hp. The only thing I would say is that it is LOUD! There are two versions available and mine is the non silenced one with an excuse for a baffle in it!

Bex, Yes, I love the look of the Brembos. I need to get a couple of new pipes made up though, as the angle is no longer 90 degrees at the caliper end like the original pipes, I need 30 degrees. I will also fit twin lines direct to improve the brakes even further whilst i'm at it.
The dash goes over the top of the original one. I'm like you, unsure at the moment as to if it improves it or not? It is simply a couple of spots of silicone to hold it on, so simple to remove as well.

I couldn't get them out either, so they stayed in with penny washers either side and a bolt and nut holding it all together. I was ready to fit new if necessary, but they survived without trouble. The foot peg hanger ones come out easily.

I see you changed the chain sprocket flange into a shiny gold one, is it just a matter of removing the nuts or do you need tot take out the rear wheel in order to prevent the bolts from rotating? I want to have mine powder coated in matt black and still have some CNC racing replacement nuts on my desk.

You have to remove the large nut on the axle, best slacken the sprocket nuts first.

I like them all, if I had a least favourite would be the way you brought it. It's like a new bike every time you change the colour.

Thank you all for your comments. And now we see that the one that should have been built is on the horizon for 2014! More power but the ability to change colours regularly.........

Well it's been 3 years of pleasure, but the time has come to move on. Here she sits with all her bling removed ready for the last ride back to the shop tomorrow. Many fond memories will stay with me, 11000 miles of pleasure which include Ireland in 2011, WDW 2012, IOM 2013, Le Mans, Brands, Mallory and Castle Combe track days, MOB and many other ride outs all spring to mind. Never raced, but most definitely Rally'd!

End of an era. Good luck with whatever you do next. Im sure the mobility scooter can be blinged up nice.

Did it not come with a carbon one as standard? I have a plastic one and it does fit, I wondered where it came from! What was standard when new Albie?

I best get my Allen keys out then! Await another part for sale in a bit! Any idea of a value? It has a slight graze on it at the back where a nail got caught in the tyre.
