15000 miles on the clock, knackered wheel bearings - bit scary really, was on a Belgian motorway at the time. Fortunately, its still under warranty as it needs a new back wheel.

Had to leave the bike in Belgium and carry on as pillion sharing out my luggage. On the up-side, it means have to go back to fetch it.

think a few have had wheel bearing issues on the 696.

Wouldn't have thought 15k was too bad though? Not great, but that's a fair few years of "average" riding miles.

Bearings like most things, are built to a price. A small percentage will fail almost from new, some will last decades, the vast majority fall somewhere in between on a bell curve. Unlucky... but undoubdedly scary.

Had my front one checked and replaced recently. Bikes just done 20k miles and it wasn't that bad but I had it done for piece of mind more than anything. They're not that expensive so might as well!

Might get the rear one checked now  :chuckle:

15K is (sadly) about 7 years average use these days so you could say they've done OK

My fronts went at 25K, the rear at 30K

Wheel bearings should be replaced around 20 ~ 30,000 miles, even sooner if you have been using a power wash

They are not expensive, and easy to do, and make a huge difference in handling

Just one of those things, feel lucky to have got off the motorway & bike as quickly as I did without scaring anyone else but me!

Big thanks to John at JHP for his help sorting out the warranty stuff.
