View Full Version : Wiltshire White Horse Ride Out and lunch - July 10th

Rally
02-06-2011, 12:29 PM
The idea is to ride around all the Wiltshire horses (8 in total) and maybe also visit the 'Kiwi' at Bulford and even the 'Rude man' in Dorset as well, if people want too?

As the time is getting close now, can we have an idea how many people may be interested in this ride out, as it will be best to forward book lunch somewhere if there are alot of us. Mileage wise it is approximately 80 miles around Wiltshire + Dorset if chosen.

I propose meeting up at 10 - 10.30am in Devizes Market place, as it is central to most of the horses. Please place your names below in the usual way: -

We will be having lunch at the Barge Inn at Honeystreet, on the side of the canal if that suits? I have to confirm numbers by Friday, about 12 so far. I will post the route when It is decided which way round to go! Ice cream van timings etc all being considered. :D

Have you seen the weather forecast for Sunday?
Are you still going to run this, or save it for another time?

Roz & I were planning on joining the rest of the group for lunch, but the weather looks really bad, the commentators at the GP qualifying at Silverstone described the forecast for Sunday as apocalyptic

Rally
10-06-2011, 08:01 PM
If the tomorrows forecast for Sunday remains the same, I think a postponement could be in order and wise! Told the pub today that we may not arrive if it's wet, but if we have to wait, so be it.
Let's all put our thoughts forward. Mine are cider and Moto GP in the arm chair are better than getting wet and cold!

I have just checked the forecast and it does look pretty grim. I think S4Rs Mack's idea of a postponement is wise, but don't want to let anyone down.

I therefore second the postponement idea unless someone posts otherwise this evening. I will advise ASAP the new date when the diaries have been checked. Sorry folks.

I took an adventure to far off parts this afternoon (Dorset) and can confirm lumps of rain chased me home! I was also slightly caught out by how cold it got. If it looks worse tomorrow, i'll 3rd the postponement. I hope Spring returns by the 1st July....

We had a heavy hail storm here a bit earlier and that was cold.

I don't want to let ANYONE down and will get the bike out for one if someone is that keen to still do it. It looks like we will awake to rain though and the day will get worse.

I have put a new date of JULY 10th up for this event now. I think it is about the only date that doesn't seem to clash with too much else. Yes I know it's the British Grand Prix, but it was the British Moto GP last time!

Let's hope for some good weather this time. I suggest all the timings and meeting place remain the same.

Yes Dean. As per post number 1 still. Lets aim to meet at 10ish, but to be ready to leave for 10.30am from Devizes Market Place. That gives a bit of flexibility to those coming a greater distance.

Oh Yes, I forgot to put that stop in! It depends on timings, but there is a good pub on the side of the canal just after the Alton Barnes horse. Or otherwise maybe the services at Amesbury? Let's see how the day takes us...........

Cheers all and thanks for the kind comments. I enjoyed today very much as well. It makes you realise how much you take for granted the lovely local views and tourist attractions we have here in Wiltshire.

I mean, where else would you see a boat driving down the A4 and what must have the person on the
S2 thought when 12 Monsters came the otherway towards him? Also a big thanks to him upstairs for keeping us dry today.

Well after a bit of looking on Google, it would seem that there are 7 of them as listed below;

Calne, Compton Bassett, Winterbourne Bassett, Woolstone near Swindon, Minety, Biddestone and Downton near Salisbury.

The mini bus would need to travel 78 miles to do them all with a central starting place, Devizes. Oh, how convienient!!! :mand:
