After much soul searching and a lot of delaying and not to mention my imminent emigration to Australia I am selling my 888 which Ive owned for the last 14 years.
Its done about 36000 kms. The speedo is the original KM one but I had the face re-printed and I couldn't get a complete unit at the time.
The bike is a 1993 Strada but I have fiddled and fettled it into the beauty it is today.
It is painted as a SP4 because I think this to be the prettiest of all the 888's but it still retains the pillion provision. I did have a carbon fibre SP seat unit but sold it a few years ago as i never used it as my wife and kids loved to come on the back.
Any way after major engine failure due to a broken crank and cracked LH case a replacement engine was built around a 996SP bottom end. The cases are S4R and crank rods (Ti Pankl), pistons and barrels are 996SP. the heads are S4R with 996 A1 cams.
The throttle bodies are 996 twin injector ones with an adjustable pressure regulator. Airbox is open and has a K&N filter.
I also replaced the wiring loom for a 996 one as the new engine has a 3 phase alternator.
I also fitted the later type of handle bar switches as the originals just felt poor quality.
The ECU is the Weber 1.6M type with a suitable JHP eprom to match the engine and exhaust.
The exhaust headers are the original ones and polished to a high shine. There are 2 sets of slip on cans. A low set for use with the pillion pegs and a high rise set. The low ones are the original cans but with a Bora conversion by Baines racing and carbon sleeves. and the high set are carbon Lasers. Both sound 'The Dogs'.
I had the forks and rear shock rebuilt and re-valved by Kais Ohlins a few years ago and this transformed the handling of the bike. So much more comfortable and sensitive.
Front brake disks are SP fully floating types with Carbonne Lorraine pads and a Hypermotard radial master cylinder. The rear has the floating torque rod type calliper carrier. Hoses are stainless braided.
The belts are about 6 months old and have done about 1500 kms so plenty of life left in them.
The valve clearances were done at the same time as the belts and I only needed to change 2 closing shims. Which was nice!!
Oil and filter were done this month just before the MOT which it passed. (due May 15th 2011). Taxed till November this year.
No stupid bling on the bike just classic carbon front & rear huggers.
Tyres are Metzler Racetec's with loads of life left as they have only done a trip to Cadwell for a trackday and back
There is loads I can say about this bike so if you are interested and have any questions then please ask.
I will add more as and when I remember.
Here are a few photos I have. I will add more later.

Andy

Thanks for the positive comments.
I haven't put it on 851/888 yet as I am seriously delaying the inevitable. I will have to though. I just want to see what feedback I get at the moment because Ive read some negative comments on other non standard 888's which have dis-heartened me somewhat.
Ive tried to keep any upgrades tasteful and true to the spirit of Ducati but the bike has to be to the taste of any prospective buyer.
As price goes, I've seen others bog standard 888's 93/94 up from anything from £6500.
I saw a '91 851 up for £7500. So would I be asking too much If I priced at £7000.

Regards
Andy

would shipping it out to Oz be out of the question? as you seem attached to it! i guess it would cost a few quid, i looked after a dog for a friend for 18 months before shipping (flying) him out to Oz cost 3.5K !!!! thats one expensive staffy, some things in life you just have todo. :)

That was the original plan but since my visa came they changed the rules regarding personal imports. You used to be able to import 1 vehicle a year as a personal import but now you can only import 1 every 5 years.
I was going to keep the bike at my mums for the year. As I am using our car as my 1 vehicle I am now pushed to sell the bike. As things go, imported vehicles don't fetch the same money down under as officially imported ones.
Regarding the car, that is a very special one which I rebuilt myself and is a completely different story itself.
