Hi, I've recently replaced my 94 monster 900's knackered forks with some showa forks off an 01 900ss, but they feel very hard over bumps have reduced compression damping to 16 clicks but feel that I'm going a bit too far off pizt with setting, anyone got any advice? Cheers Bitza.

Were the secondhand 900SS forks standard or has someone swapped springs or used thicker oil?

Back off all the damping and set the sag first with preload adjusters. Then worry about damping but only dial in a little at a time and make notes. What state is the rear shock in? If it's just as knackered as front end was then it'll make a big difference to handling.

Thanks for the reply, the rear shock is a recent ohlins replacement, your suggestions of springs & oil are of course possibilities, and I might well change the oil just to check. I just wondered wether other people found these forks Hard? What year is your 900ie and if its an 01-02 what are your standard settings? cheers Bitza

My 900ie was a Dark and had non adjustable showas as standard. They have since been swapped for 996 Showas I bought on ebay. No idea what stock 900ie settings are - post up an appeal for 900ieS owners to look at a handbook.

Owners Manual for 01 is missing from Ducati Website but 02 is as below

Ducati forks do tend to be a bit on the hard side, especially if you;re used to the spongy things Japanese factories turned out in 80s
